Reporting to the Head of Product, the Product Manager (Optimisation) will take product ownership of the decision-making intelligence at the heart of the PARIS platform. You will lead the definition and execution of the Optimisation roadmap, collaborating closely with data science and engineering teams to refine how our algorithms predict, trade, and manage energy flows. Bridging the technical capabilities of our AI with the commercial needs of our B2B partners, you will ensure the product continuously maximises asset performance and financial returns for end-users through revenue stacking across multiple markets.
Ultimately, the Product Manager (Optimisation) is responsible for maximising the value of our Optimisation product line both to the customer and to us as a business, by ensuring the right features are built in the right order. They are accountable for solving "what are we building next" and "why are we building it" for the Optimisation product line. This is a hybrid role with a minimum of 3 days a week in Joulen's Belfast office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Product Strategy and Vision: Define, articulate and maintain the optimisation product roadmap, prioritising features and user stories against Joulens commercial growth targets. Support the development of business cases for new initiatives through impact assessment against optimisation capabilities. Be an internal expert on optimisation product offerings, including supporting Sales opportunities as a technical expert, and delivering competitor and market insights.
- Execution & Delivery: Translate commercial, technical and operational requirements into actionable user stories and requirements for engineers and data scientists. Fulfil the role of Product Owner, partnering with technical resources within our ways of working for delivery. Ownership of clarifications and product decisions required to support technical delivery roles as they break down user stories to tasks.
- Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary liaison between the Optimisation technical team and stakeholders including Sales, Commercial, Trading, Operations; ensuring our optimisation capabilities meet their needs. Clearly communicate the optimisation product vision, roadmap, and success metrics to all stakeholders, tailoring messaging for leadership, key stakeholders, and for wider company awareness.

- Consumption forecast accuracy
- Optimiser accuracy (identified revenue stack vs retrospective perfect optimisation)
- Accuracy of predicted revenue vs revenue achieved
- Optimisation product pipeline value
- Technical stability (e.g. optimiser uptime/latency)
- Optimisation team delivery cadence
Essential Criteria:
- Degree or higher educated.
- 3+ years of experience in a Product Manager, Product Owner, or equivalent role, ideally focused on data-intensive products.
- Proven experience working with data science, machine learning, or quantitative engineering teams to deliver algorithmic products.
- Experience of software development lifecycle concepts (SDLC).

- A degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).
- Certified SCRUM Product Owner (or equivalent).
- A strong understanding of the energy sector, particularly in energy trading and/or flexibility markets.
- Demonstrable track record of owning and successfully shipping complex product features to drive commercial growth.
- Familiarity with Jira, Azure DevOps, or other similar software delivery management tools.
