An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Chartered Building Surveyor to join one of the UK's leading commercial property consultancies as Director – Deputy Head of Building Surveying.
Reporting directly to the Head of Building Surveying, Project & Cost Management, you will take responsibility for the day to day leadership and operational management of the London Building Surveying team.
This is a genuine leadership appointment for someone looking to move beyond purely fee earning responsibilities. You will play a pivotal role in growing the team, developing people, driving financial performance and winning new business, whilst remaining actively involved in delivering high quality advice to an enviable client base.
Working alongside the Head of Department, you will help shape the strategic direction of one of the firm's most important service lines and be instrumental in its continued growth across London and the South East.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership
- Lead and manage the London Building Surveying team on a day to day basis.
- Support the Head of Building Surveying, Project & Cost Management in delivering the wider business strategy.
- Recruit, mentor and develop Building Surveyors across all levels.
- Conduct performance reviews, coaching and career development planning.
- Promote collaboration across Building Surveying, Project Management and Cost Management teams.
- Drive a high performance, commercially focused team culture.
Business Development
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing clients.
- Identify opportunities to expand existing accounts and win new instructions.
- Lead client pitches, presentations and fee proposals.
- Generate new business through your existing market network.
- Work collaboratively with other service lines to maximise cross selling opportunities.
Client Delivery
Lead and oversee a broad range of Building Surveying instructions including:
- Dilapidations
- Contract Administration
- Refurbishment and fit out projects
- Planned Preventative Maintenance SurveysBuilding Pathology
- Licence for Alterations
- Party Wall matters
- General Professional Building Surveying advice
Client Relationship Management
- Act as a trusted adviser to a broad portfolio of commercial clients.
- Deliver exceptional client service across all commissions.
- Represent the business at industry events and networking functions.
- Build long term relationships that generate repeat business.
About You
- Significant experience within commercial Building Surveying.
- Currently operating at Director level or an ambitious Senior Associate/Associate Director ready to step into a leadership role.
- Proven experience managing teams and developing people.
- Strong business development and client relationship skills.
- Demonstrable track record of winning and retaining commercial instructions.
- Strong financial and operational management skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- Existing network across the London commercial property market.
- Experience managing departmental budgets and fee forecasts.
- APC Assessor and/or Counsellor experience.
- Experience working with institutional investors, developers, occupiers and public sector clients.
