Gloucestershire County Council is seeking an experienced and passionate Social Worker to join our dedicated Cotswolds Children & Families Team based in Cirencester. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified social worker who is committed to making a positive difference in the lives of children, young people, and families through effective, evidence-based interventions and relationship-focused practice.

About the Role

  • Hold and manage a complex caseload involving children in need, child protection, and care proceedings
  • Deliver high-quality assessments, interventions, and outcome-focused plans
  • Undertake direct work with children, young people, and families to reduce risk and improve outcomes
  • Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners to safeguard children
  • Provide mentoring, consultation, and guidance to less experienced colleagues
  • Support reflective practice and practice development across the team
  • Produce high-quality case recordings, assessments, and court reports
  • Attend and contribute to professional meetings including core groups and multi-agency meetings

Flexible & Hybrid Working

  • Hybrid working available where service needs allow
  • Workers are expected to attend the office 3 days per week
  • All children must be seen face to face
  • Laptop and smartphone provided to support agile working
  • The role may occasionally require flexibility outside normal office hours in response to urgent service needs.

What We're Looking For

Essential Qualifications

  • MA/MSc/BA/BSc in Social Work or equivalent HCPC-approved qualification (DipSW, CQSW, CSS)
  • Registered Social Worker
  • Enhanced DBS clearance
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle

Essential Experience

  • Significant post-qualifying experience within statutory children's services
  • Experience working with children and families with highly complex needs
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, care proceedings, and child protection processes
  • Experience of multi-agency working and partnership collaboration
  • Ability to mentor and support less experienced staff or students

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong assessment and intervention skills
  • Excellent understanding of attachment, resilience, risk, and child development
  • Ability to apply legislation, policy, and case law effectively
  • Skilled communication in high-risk and challenging situations
  • Strong analytical, reflective, and report-writing abilities
  • A resilient, compassionate, and non-judgemental approach
