We're looking for experienced volunteers to join our marketing team and play a pivotal role in the life of York’s historic, community theatre that's been inspiring audiences since 1935.

What difference will you make?

Your role will be central to the success of the theatre, working with other team members to support the theatre's mission and the organisations that hire our venue.

What are we looking for?

  • Applicants must have marketing or related experience, including content creation and copywriting across different media.
  • We are particularly seeking volunteers who have video production and editing skills.
  • Experience in digital marketing is highly desirable.
  • Volunteers need to be able to work individually and report back at the weekly meetings.
  • Volunteers are also expected to contribute ideas and take on projects.
  • Being comfortable with online tools and platforms, such as Google Drive, Suitdash, Dot Digital, Canva, and similar, would be an advantage.

Although mainly home-based, volunteers are expected to visit the theatre from time to time and liaise with the hirers. It is a role that requires a degree of self-discipline and commitment, but one that is also hugely rewarding and fun!

What will you be doing?

We’re looking for volunteers to join our theatre marketing team. Some experience in marketing or in a related field is essential. Each team member takes on a different area of responsibility, which includes:

  • Social media content and management
  • Website editing
  • Copywriting
  • Email marketing
  • Data analysis
  • Show brochure production
  • Photography
  • Video production and editing

You will be encouraged to share ideas and take on projects, working with volunteers in other parts of the theatre, such as the fundraising, community, and box office teams. We meet online once a week to review activities and plan for the week ahead, and in-person once a quarter. The minimum weekly time commitment is in the region of three hours. Occasionally projects may require a bigger time commitment, but we do share work as a team. You will be working as part of a small, enthusiastic, fun team and playing a pivotal role in the life of our lovely community theatre.
