In this role, you will design and manage partnerships, programmes and events that connect people with the park, the buildings and each other, reflecting the needs and priorities of York’s communities. You will also help shape how the wider estate is used in future and ensure that community perspectives are central to its development. Joseph Rowntree Foundation is investing in a new chapter for the entire estate, and we’re recruiting a Head of Community Partnerships to lead this work.

Responsibilities

  • Lead community engagement activities, volunteering programmes and nature‑based initiatives to encourage participation, strengthen belonging and support positive social and environmental change.
  • Build trusted relationships with local residents, charities, community groups and partners, particularly those who have been excluded from decision‑making.
  • Facilitate inclusive activities and engage with diverse perspectives, ensuring the park is welcoming and accessible to all.
  • Shape future use of the estate, ensuring inclusion and accessibility in planning and development.

Qualifications

  • Experience of community engagement within parks, public spaces or the voluntary sector.
  • Strong commitment to inclusion, accessibility and delivering practical, impactful projects.
