Head of AI & Legal Innovation

Head of AI & Legal Innovation

Full-Time On-site
Joseph Hage Aaronson & Bremen LLP

Joseph Hage Aaronson & Bremen is a specialist London litigation firm acting in complex, high-value disputes. Litigation is also one of the most interesting areas for AI and we are looking for someone to lead how it can change the way our lawyers work, from disclosure and chronologies to drafting and trial preparation.

This role has real reach. You will work directly with partners and fee earners, shape the firm's AI roadmap, and see the results of your work quickly. There is no large innovation department to queue behind.

If you are already driving AI adoption in a law firm and want more ownership and more visible impact, we would like to hear from you.

What you'll do

Set the direction and deliver results

  • Shape the firm's AI and practice improvement roadmap with senior management, balancing quick wins against larger initiatives as tools and needs change.
  • Find the problems worth solving by talking to fee earners, mapping workflows and investigating causes, including issues nobody has raised yet.
  • Decide the best response to each: better use of existing tools, a process change, automation or a new product. Weigh benefits, effort, cost and risk.
  • Run focused trials with clear success criteria and practitioner feedback, counting the time needed to check outputs. Recommend whether to scale, revise or stop.
  • Where a custom tool or automation is agreed, own the requirements and work with our IT and technical specialists through build, testing and roll-out.

Make AI part of how the firm works

  • Coach lawyers and staff on real matters, from first-time users to confident power users, so they get better results and know where the tools fall short.
  • Run practical sessions, build reusable guides and examples, and help successful approaches spread across teams.
  • Be the go-to person for day-to-day AI questions and follow up to make sure people can work independently.

Measure what matters and keep it safe

  • Track adoption and the effect on quality, turnaround, confidence and time spent, alongside implementation and running costs. Report results to management.
  • Keep an eye on new AI developments and judge which ones are worth the firm's time.
  • Lead reviews of AI policy and guidance with legal, compliance and IT colleagues, so that confidentiality, data handling and responsible use are built into how people work.
  • Make proportionate purchasing and development recommendations, with clear costs, benefits and support needs.

Who we're looking for

Ideally you are already doing this in a law firm or legal team, in legal innovation, knowledge management, legal operations, legal technology or practice.

We will also consider exceptional people from other professional services backgrounds with strong AI skills and a record of improving complex workflows.

You will bring

  • Deep, hands-on AI expertise. You know how to structure tasks and context, improve prompts and workflows, evaluate outputs and explain the limits.
  • A track record of changing how professionals work, with examples of what people kept using afterwards.
  • Strong business analysis skills: interviewing users, mapping processes, defining scope, and writing requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Curiosity about how other people work, and the instinct to dig into problems before being asked.
  • Clear, patient communication, and the credibility to work with busy senior lawyers.
  • The ability to run several initiatives at once, organise trials, coordinate contributors and measure results.
  • Commercial judgement about service quality, capacity, cost, confidentiality and the effort needed to maintain a solution.

Useful but not essential

  • Experience with Claude, Microsoft Copilot, or legal research platforms such as Practical Law and Westlaw UK.
  • Experience with automation, delivering training or working alongside developers.

You do not need a legal qualification or a technical background.

What success looks like

You will make a difference from your first weeks, helping colleagues with live work while you learn how the firm operates. Good discoveries will quickly become guidance, coaching or changes to how work gets done.

Within three months, more people will be using approved tools with confidence, and you will be able to show the improvement in quality, effort or turnaround. Beyond that, you will spread what works across teams and keep the firm ahead as tools and needs change.

What we offer

  • High Competitive Salary
  • Hybrid working arrangement
  • Pension, healthcare and other key benefits
  • Budget or tools you will have access to
  • Direct access to partners and a genuine say in where the firm invests
  • A role that can grow as the firm's AI work grows
