Joseph Gallagher Limited is a leading civil engineering and construction business delivering projects across the UK and internationally. We are looking for a dedicated Finance Assistant Apprentice to join our finance team and begin a career in finance, with a focus on transactional finance such as accounts payable, bookkeeping and financial administration. This role provides the opportunity to gain hands‑on experience while working towards a Level 3 Finance Assistant Apprenticeship, aligned with industry‑recognised accounting standards.
About the Apprenticeship
You will be enrolled on the Level 3 Finance Assistant Apprenticeship, a nationally recognised programme that develops practical skills in accounting, financial processing, reconciliations, financial systems, and basic reporting. Many apprentices complete this with support towards AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) qualifications.
About the Role
As a Finance Assistant Apprentice, you will support the finance team with everyday accounting tasks, including processing invoices, payment runs, reconciliations, and financial records — with particular exposure to accounts payable (AP).
Key Responsibilities
- Processing supplier invoices and matching to purchase orders
- Supporting payment runs and ensuring timely payment to suppliers
- Posting financial transactions accurately and on time
- Assisting with reconciliations of accounts
- Supporting month‑end finance processes
- Maintaining accurate financial records and filing
- Assisting with data entry and financial administration
- Supporting with internal controls and compliance activities
About You
We’re looking for someone organised, numerate, and keen to build a career in finance. You will ideally have:
- An interest in finance, accounting, or numbers
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Confidence using Microsoft Excel and finance systems
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (or willingness to work towards them)
No prior finance or accounting experience is required — just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
