The Teaching Assistant will support teaching and learning by working alongside teachers to deliver high-quality education and care to pupils with complex needs and challenging behaviours. The role is vital in helping students access learning, develop independence, and achieve positive outcomes.
About the School
Our client is an Outstanding-rated Independent SEN School operating across two sites. KS3 pupils are based at the South Birmingham site (B38) and KS4 and KS5 pupils attend the North Worcestershire site (B60). The school supports young people aged 11-19 with special educational needs, primarily associated with Autism. Students benefit from a safe, structured, low-sensory environment combined with an ambitious and personalised curriculum, including GCSEs and enrichment opportunities. The school is committed to preparing young people for adulthood, further education, employment, and training.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils with learning activities, adapting approaches to meet individual needs under teacher guidance
- Promote pupils' social, emotional, and behavioural development using trauma-informed practices
- Support behaviour management in line with the school's behaviour policy and staff code of conduct
- Encourage engagement, confidence, and independence in learning
- Assist with classroom organisation and preparation of learning resources
- Support monitoring and recording of pupil progress as directed
- Help maintain a safe, clean, and positive learning environment
Requirements
- Relevant education or training, with a willingness to undertake further professional development
- Experience supporting pupils in an educational or care setting
- Experience working with pupils with SEND and complex needs
- Understanding of safeguarding, behaviour management, and SEND principles
- Ability to work effectively under the direction of teaching staff
