Jones Whyte Law Ltd are looking to recruit an experienced Paralegal to join our busy Clinical Negligence Team. Jones Whyte is a dynamic, and forward-thinking firm. The Role

As a Paralegal within the Clinical Negligence team, you will manage your own caseload while assisting the Solicitors within the department. This will involve pre-litigation work and cases which are litigated in the All Scotland Sheriff Personal Injury Court and Court of Session. You will have the opportunity to be involved in a wide variety of cases such as delayed diagnosis, hospital negligence, GP claims, surgical negligence, birth injury cases and fatal accidents. You will also act as a point of contact for clients, providing high-quality advice on a wide range of injury claims, predominantly pre-litigation but with exposure to litigated claims, where appropriate. The team is comprised of Partners, Associates, Solicitors, Paralegals, Legal Secretaries and dedicated Legal Assistants. The role presents an opportunity for the right candidate to develop personally and professionally within the firm and gain promotion.

The ideal candidate is client-focused and proactive with a positive attitude and a flexible approach. They will be a strong team player with a caring and compassionate nature, particularly when dealing with emotional and sensitive matters.

Responsibilities

  • Working with our valued clients to understand requirements and manage cases in line with service level agreements and best practice
  • Taking precognitions
  • Requesting and reviewing medical records
  • Instructing expert witnesses to prepare reports
  • Intimating letters of claim to Health Professionals and Health Boards
  • Reporting to the supervising Solicitor and Partner
  • Drafting letters of instruction to Counsel
  • Assisting with expert consultations
  • Reviewing offers
  • Responding to clients via telephone, letters and email
  • Liaising with and providing administrative support for case handlers
  • Working with our case management system to update and maintain on a daily basis

Requirements:

  • At least 1 year experience handling Clinical Negligence cases
  • Ability to manage a high volume of cases
  • Motivated and proactive individual
  • Organised, punctual, and professional individual
  • Strong, clear, and concise communication skills with the ability to maintain client contact throughout the process
  • Professional and confident phone manner and ability to provide excellent service to our clients
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Computer literate, proficient with MS Office
  • Able to work autonomously but also within a team

Desirable but not essential:

  • Full Litigation experience
