The Role:

As an Immigration Solicitor at Jones Whyte, you will be working with a team of professionals who have a range of skills and expertise. The team comprises of three solicitors as well as benefitting from the support of an experienced Legal Secretary and Legal Assistants. The work is varied, with case types across the spectrum of immigration casework. We work closely with clients, experts & counsel as required and act for clients in courts across Scotland. The day-to-day role within this team involves managing a caseload of immigration and asylum matters. Reporting to the Head of Department, you will manage your own caseload and work alongside others in the team. The ideal candidate will be a proactive individual with a positive attitude and flexible approach towards the implementation of new processes. We understand the want for a good work life balance which is why we offer hybrid working for this role, upon completion of office based training.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing own caseload of asylum and immigration matters
  • Attending Immigration Tribunal and Court of Session hearings
  • Corresponding with clients, other Solicitors, interpreters as well as Counsel and experts where appropriate
  • Providing support to others within the department
  • Supporting business development within the department
  • Working as part of a team to ensure the best results for our clients
  • Working to reach department KPIs & targets

Key Attributes:

  • At least 1 year in an Immigration role
  • Understanding of the appropriate legal procedures and regulation
  • Experience in pursuing all types of asylum and immigration matters from start to finish
  • Good knowledge of SLAB requirements
  • Tribunal advocacy experience
  • Excellent relationship and client handling skills
  • Strong work ethic and team player
  • Strong communication and organisation skills
  • Positive outlook
