Salary: £55,000.00 to £65,000.00 per year (based on an average 50 hour week)

Hours: Monday to Friday 6am–4.00pm, every other Saturday 6am–11am

Holidays: 21 days annual leave plus bank holidays (excluding Good Friday, which is a working day)

Jones Skips is a well‑established skip hire and waste transfer business with over 30 years of successful operation and a fleet of ~50 HGVs. Based near Wolverhampton city centre, we are a growing and ambitious company, investing in people, processes, and performance.

We are now seeking an experienced Senior HGV Mechanic / Workshop Manager to join our team and play a key role in leading our operations into the next stage of growth.

You will be responsible for managing our on‑site workshop, overseeing a fleet of around 50 HGVs as well as supporting plant and machinery operations. This role combines technical expertise with leadership, compliance management, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily vehicle maintenance, including MOT preparation, repairs, inspections, brake testing and diagnostics
• Manage and implement a robust preventative maintenance plan for HGVs and plant equipment
• Develop and maintain efficient workshop systems to ensure compliance and optimise performance
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and compliance documentation
• Monitor spend vs budget, drive efficiency, and identify cost‑saving opportunities
• Lead, motivate, and develop the workshop team
• Modernise and improve existing processes and systems
• Promote a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement
• Manage all external contractors and associated invoices
• Will be responsible for approving all workshop related invoices, prior to passing on for payment

About You

We’re looking for someone with strong technical grounding and proven leadership experience who thrives in a hands‑on, fast‑paced environment.

• Proven experience in HGV maintenance and repair
• Team management experience within a workshop or transport environment
• Solid understanding of vehicle compliance and regulations
• Relevant formal qualifications (e.g. IRTEC or NVQ Level 3 or equivalent)
• Excellent communication, organisation, and problem‑solving skills
• Strong work ethic, determination, and a positive, proactive attitude
• Experience working with plant machinery
• HGV driving licence
