Shift Engineering Manager

prioritization and technical guidance /li li Conduct daily shift briefings and debriefs for priorities, safety alerts, and handovers /li li Develop high-performing shift teams through coaching and real-time feedback /li li Manage attendance, absences, and resource deployment for continuous coverage /li li Assess individual skills and identify development needs for shift engineers /li li Lead by example with hands-on involvement during critical situations /li li Foster team cohesion and consistent standards across shifts /li li Maintain operational command and immediate response to building system alerts and failures /li li Monitor BMS, fire alarm panels, and critical dashboards during shifts /li li Coordinate rapid response to equipment breakdowns and emergencies /li li Direct engineers on urgent tasks, balancing operational impact and client requirements /li li Make autonomous decisions during out-of-hours with limited oversight /li li Execute structured shift handovers and maintain logs /li li Update work management systems with shift activities and status changes /li li Brief Engineering Manager on significant events and trends /li li Coordinate with day teams on follow-up tasks /li li Serve as primary escalation point for engineering emergencies /li li Mobilize on-call specialists and contractors as needed /li li Coordinate with emergency services during critical incidents /li li Document incidents thoroughly and capture lessons learned /li li Participate in on-call rota as required /li li Oversee reactive maintenance with quality control and timely completion /li li Verify completed works meet standards and sign off in systems /li li Conduct spot-checks on workmanship /li li Ensure proper documentation for reactive tasks /li li Monitor reactive backlog and reallocate resources as needed /li li Coordinate specialist contractor callouts for beyond in-house capability /li li Monitor PPM completion and ensure quality /li li Perform random quality checks on completed PPMs /li li Address PPM overruns via reallocation or escalation /li li Update maintenance records before end of shift /li li Enforce safe working practices and conduct safety walks /li li Lead shift-based safety briefings and maintain safety documentation /li li Monitor critical system parameters and identify abnormal conditions /li li Direct corrective actions to optimize performance /li li Coordinate planned testing with minimal occupant impact /li li Maintain cleanliness of plant rooms and equipment compounds /li li Record shift equipment inspections and readings /li li Deploy shift engineers across multiple tasks to balance workload /li li Monitor productivity and address inefficiencies /li li Ensure tools, parts, and consumables are available /li li Coordinate shift vehicle use and fleet maintenance /li li Manage shift break schedules and overtime /li li Maintain accurate shift logs, timesheets, and documentation /li li Update asset registers with equipment leading engineering teams in shift-based, 24/7 environments /li li Ability to motivate teams during nights, weekends, and holidays /li li Strong situational leadership and autonomous decision-making /li li 5+ years in shift operations or supervisory roles in facilities management or industrial settings /li li Hands-on technical competence across electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and plumbing systems /li li Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) /li li Understanding of life safety, power distribution, and HVAC controls /li li Proven track record in managing technical emergencies and rapid responses /li li Liaising with emergency services and managing evacuations or lockdowns /li li Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (Corrigo, Maximo, or similar) /li li Competent with mobile devices for real-time updates /li li Strong written communication for logs and reports /li li Microsoft Office proficiency for reporting /li li Valid IOSH Managing Safely certification /li li Knowledge of RAMS and contractor safety supervision /li li Full UK driving licence /li li Willingness to work rotating shifts and on-call duties /li li Desirable qualifications in City Guilds, NVQ Level 3, HNC or equivalent /li li Experience in high-availability environments (data centres, hospitals, manufacturing, airports) /li li Familiarity with cooling towers and water
