To provide comprehensive refrigeration engineering services including maintenance, repair, and technical support for retail refrigeration systems. Participate in emergency response coverage and contribute to on-site project delivery and continuous improvement initiatives.
Main Duties and Responsibilities include:- This is a site-based (static) role, supporting all refrigeration assets within the Clients estate.
- Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on all types of retail refrigeration equipment including CO2, glycol, and A2L systems.
- Conduct scheduled and reactive maintenance work to ensure optimal system performance and compliance with regulations.
- Respond to emergency and non-emergency callouts as part of your working shift.
- Create and maintain detailed service reports, technical documentation, and F-Gas logs in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Ensure all engineering work is completed in compliance with health and safety regulations and company procedures.
- Communicate effectively with store management and customers regarding service requirements and system status.
- Support on-site project installations, refurbishments, and commissioning activities when required.
- Identify and report opportunities for system improvements and energy efficiency enhancements.
- Maintain accurate records of parts usage and support on-site stock requirements for critical components.
- Assist in the preparation of quotations for additional on-site reactive works and small projects.
- Provide technical input and recommendations for equipment upgrades and replacements.
- Collaborate with the service team to meet KPI targets for planned preventive maintenance and reactive response times.
- Stay current with new refrigeration technologies, regulations, and best practices through ongoing professional development.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues using systematic diagnostic approaches.
- Support training and knowledge sharing initiatives within the engineering team.
- Extensive hands-on experience in retail refrigeration service and maintenance operations.
- Strong technical knowledge of commercial refrigeration systems, controls, and equipment.
- Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex refrigeration system faults.
- Experience working independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high quality standards.
- Good understanding of customer service requirements in retail environments.
- Practical problem-solving approach with attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with customers and colleagues.
- Flexibility to work overtime and participate in emergency standby duties.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Word.
- Time Served Refrigeration Engineer qualification.
- CITB Safety Passport.
- City & Guilds 2078 / 2079 F-Gas Refrigerant Handling certification.
- City & Guilds 207 - Refrigeration & Air Conditioning.
- NVQ Level 1, 2 & 3 - Refrigeration & Air Conditioning.
- Pressure Testing Competency certification.
- Manufacturer-specific compressor training courses.
- Controls and strategy experience.
- Product training on commercial chillers beneficial.
