We are seeking a Technical Bid Manager to assess tender information and develop robust technical solutions, bid responses, tender programmes and project proposals for a varied portfolio of civil engineering projects. Working predominantly from our head office in Ruthin or our office in Cardiff, with flexibility for partial remote working and visits to sites as required, you will report directly to the Senior Bid Manager.
You will coordinate technical inputs throughout the tender lifecycle, working closely with estimating, planning, commercial, design and operational colleagues to ensure submissions are compliant, coordinated, compelling and delivered on time.
Joining a collaborative team that values practical thinking, initiative and problem-solving, the role offers exposure to a variety of civil engineering projects and the wider pre-construction process, with opportunities to broaden your technical, planning and estimating knowledge and take on greater responsibility.
Key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Assess tender documents, drawings, specifications, contract requirements and site information to identify submission requirements, constraints and key deliverables.
- Develop robust, buildable and competitive technical solutions from drawings, specifications, site information and other tender documentation, taking account of construction methodology, sequencing, resources and project constraints.
- Obtaining and assessing design proposals and quotations.
- Preparing robust technical documentation for tender submissions.
- Identifying tender risks, opportunities and key considerations.
- Collaborating with colleagues to develop competitive and well-supported proposals.
What we are looking for:
We are interested in hearing from people with a range of backgrounds and experience.
- Relevant experience in bid management, pre-construction, tender planning, technical engineering or a related civil engineering role.
- The ability to review tender information and develop robust solutions.
- A practical understanding of civil engineering construction methods.
- Knowledge of temporary works requirements and technical solutions.
- Experience of developing construction or tender programmes using Microsoft Project or Primavera P6, or the ability and willingness to learn these systems with appropriate training.
- Good organisation and attention to detail.
- Clear communication with colleagues, suppliers and sub-contractors.
You do not need to meet every point above; if you have relevant civil engineering/ construction experience and are keen to develop, we encourage you to apply.
Desirable skills and experience
The following experience would be advantageous but is not essential. We can support the right candidate to develop in these areas:
- Experience across civil engineering sectors such as highways, earthworks, drainage, structures or marine works.
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline would be welcomed. However, relevant practical experience and alternative routes into the profession are equally valued.
- Previous experience with developing technical proposals.
- Experience of working with NEC, FIDIC or other major forms of civil engineering contract.
- Experience of tendering for larger or more complex civil engineering projects.
We recognise that strong candidates may not have experience in every area listed. If the role interests you and you believe your skills could contribute to our pre-construction team, we encourage you to apply.
What you’ll get in return
We offer the opportunity to develop an interesting career within a progressive and successful business. You can expect:
- Competitive salary.
- Benefits package including company pension.
- With some remote working, you will also visit some of our projects and sites as required.
- The opportunity to work on a variety of civil engineering projects.
- A supportive working environment.
- Support to further your professional training and development.
