This is a hands-on and varied role where no two days are necessarily the same. You’ll play an important part in ensuring our plant, vehicles, tools and equipment are ready when our site teams need them, while developing your knowledge and experience within a busy civil engineering environment.

From keeping the yard safe and organised, to helping move plant, preparing equipment for site and supporting the wider Plant Team, you’ll be right at the heart of our operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with the loading and unloading of plant, tools, and equipment

  • Monitoring yard security, gates, and lighting – raising any issues promptly

Plant and Equipment Management:

  • Supporting with the movement of plant and vehicles within the yard or to/from workshops
  • Receiving, checking, and storing plant items, tools, oils, lubricants, and materials safely and in line with COSHH requirements
  • Conducting regular plant and tool inspections and raising defects
  • Assisting with dispatch and returns of small tools and equipment to/from sites
  • Updating asset registers and tagging plant and tools appropriately

Health & Safety Compliance:

  • Carrying out regular yard and workshop safety checks and completing associated records
  • Ensuring correct storage and handling of fuels, oils, and hazardous substances
  • Reporting near misses, hazards, or unsafe conditions promptly
  • Maintaining clean pedestrian routes and segregation of vehicles and people

Administrative Support (Development) : Supporting the wider plant team:

  • Assisting the Plant and Fleet Coordinator with daily paperwork and data input
  • Processing Goods Received Notes (GRNs) for items arriving at the yard
  • Updating maintenance logs, inspection records, and asset movements
  • Filing and maintaining paperwork for plant maintenance and calibrations
  • Supporting with stocktaking of yard inventory, PPE, and consumables
  • Liaising with suppliers and hauliers regarding deliveries and collections

Team and Communication:

  • Working closely with the wider Plant Team, Workshop, and Fleet Coordinator
  • Providing a helpful and professional service to site teams collecting or returning equipment
  • Supporting the delivery of practical training sessions by preparing the yard and setting up as required
  • Attending team briefings and contributing to improvement initiatives

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Practical and hands-on
  • Proactive and willing to get stuck in
  • Organised and takes pride in their work
  • Safety-conscious and aware of their surroundings
  • Comfortable working as part of a team
  • Keen to learn and develop within the plant and civil engineering environment
  • A full UK driving licence is essential due to the movement of vehicles and plant.
