Project Health & Safety Advisor


The Role

Due to continued growth, we have an exciting opportunity for a competent project based Health & Safety Advisor to join our growing team, supporting a major project in Havant, Hampshire.

Reporting to the Senior Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Manager, the successful candidate will work closely with the Contracts Director and Deputy Project Director to provide competent HSE advice, guidance and technical support across the project.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • HSE Management Plans – supporting the planning processes and production/maintenance of key management plans including the Project Management Plan (PMP), Construction Phase Plan (CPP), Key Performance Indictors (KPI), Devising & Approving RAMS, Task Briefings, Site Inductions etc.
  • HSE Briefings, inductions and project team engagement – deliver site HSE inductions to the workforce and visitors, support project/site management team preparing and delivering daily briefings, toolbox talks, behavioural safety programmes and HSE briefings
  • Technical Advice & Support – providing specialist advice, support and input where required to deal with specific project issues with planning, managing and monitoring HSE considerations
  • Project Review – reviewing the project to identify opportunities and unusual risks, to be briefed etc.
  • Incident Management – assisting / delivering any part of the project-based elements of the incident management process including incident control, notification and investigations
  • HSE Compliance – ensuring compliance with HSE management system & procedures as part of our Business Management System both in self-delivering requirements, but also influencing behaviours, coaching & mentoring and compliance across all this project and all teams
  • HSE Monitoring – providing support in terms of project monitoring requirements, including regular HSE inspections, audits, trends etc.
  • Risk Identification & Mitigation – as appropriate
  • Record Keeping –including regular HSE progress and status reports
  • Client Interface – satisfy client requirements by providing client regular reports, HSE representation and attendance at progress meetings etc



Pre-Requisite Qualifications & Capabilities

To be successful in this role you must have the following qualifications and capabilities:

  • A willingness to travel and work at various project sites across the UK, including overnight stays where required, both during the Havant project and on future projects upon its completion.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • A genuine passion for health, safety and environmental excellence.
  • A minimum of a NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate, with progression towards a higher-level qualification.
  • Technical or Certified IOSH membership, with a commitment to achieving Chartered status.
  • Ideally 2-3 years' experience within a Tier 1 or Tier 2 civil engineering contractor environment.
  • Strong HSE technical knowledge, with experience preparing and reviewing risk assessments, method statements, investigations, reports and other HSE documentation.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate confidently and effectively at all levels; highly organised, self-motivated and flexible, with a strong team-working ethic and proficient IT skills, including the Microsoft Office.
