We are seeking a competent Senior Health & Safety Advisor to join the team. Working predominantly in the South East region for approximately 1 year on a major project and then transitioning into a broader Senior Health & Safety Advisor position, taking responsibility for managing and supporting site management and H&S advisors across a portfolio of projects throughout the UK, predominantly within the South. This role will be reporting to the Contracts Director, Contracts Manager & Senior Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Manager. The successful candidate will provide HSE technical and competent advice and support to our sites.
What You Will Be Doing
- Leadership - overseeing all specific/major project HSE requirements including client, workforce and contractor requirements. Leading on HSE standards and establishing positive working relationships.
- People Management – line manager for specific/major project HSE advisors, setting priorities, objectives, targets and overseeing the running of an efficient and supportive HSE team.
- HSE Management Plans – supporting the planning processes and production/maintenance of key management plans including the Project Management Plan (PMP), Construction Phase Plan (CPP), Key Performance Indicators (KPI), Devising & Approving RAMS, Task Briefings, Permit to Dig etc.
- HSE Briefings, inductions and site team engagement – deliver site safety inductions to all site team, workforce and visitors, support the site team preparing and delivering toolbox talks, behavioural safety programmes and HSE briefings.
- Technical Advice & Support – providing specialist advice, support and input where required to deal with specific project issues with planning, managing and monitoring HSE considerations.
- Project Review – reviewing the project to identify opportunities and unusual risks, to be briefed to the site team.
- Incident Management – assisting/delivering any part of the site-based elements of the incident management process including incident control, notification and investigations.
- HSE Compliance – ensuring compliance with HSE management system & procedures as part of our Business Management System both in self-delivering requirements, but also influencing behaviours, coaching & mentoring and compliance across all sites and teams.
- HSE Monitoring – providing support in terms of project monitoring requirements, including regular HSE inspections, audits, and trends.
- Risk Identification & Mitigation – as appropriate.
- Record Keeping – including regular HSE progress and status reports.
- Client Interface – satisfy client requirements by providing client HSE representation and attendance at progress meetings.
What We Are Looking For
- Experience of managing people, clients and relationships.
- Willingness to travel & work at various sites across the UK (including overnight stays).
- Full UK driving licence.
- Minimum NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent and working towards next qualification.
- Certified member of IOSH (and working towards chartered status).
- Preferable 3/5 years working for a Tier 1 or Tier 2 civil engineering contractor.
- Highly developed professional communication skills, including writing and presentation of reports, investigations, preparing relevant documents, and participating in a range of meetings.
- Be able to confidently and effectively communicate with all levels of the workforce, contractors, clients and regulatory bodies.
- Be self-motivated, focused, reliable, well-organised, flexible, and possess good team working ethic.
- Enthusiastic about health, safety & environmental issues.
- Possess strong computer literacy, including good working knowledge of the full Microsoft Office suite.
