We are looking for an individual to join our team on a major UK construction project as the site Earthworks Material Manager starting at the Havant Thicket Reservoir Project, Hampshire reporting directly to the Project Manager and Contract Manager.
This role will involve working on the Havant Thicket Reservoir project constructing a new large-scale reservoir. The role will include working closely with the Project Management staff, design team and Client team on the project, to ensure that all works are carried out in accordance with scope, specification, programmes and industry standards. Furthermore, you will assist with engineering quantification, quality assurance, Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) production, monitoring, reporting and document completion in line with our business management systems.

Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating and overseeing laboratory and field-testing activities, ensuring full compliance with project and industry standards.
- Producing, reviewing & issuing Inspection and Test Plans (ITP).
- Overseeing the approval process of all materials for the project.
- Review classification of excavated material on site to ensure compliance with the project specification.
- Management of the materials testing subcontractors.
- Proactively identify, investigate and resolve non-conformance issues.
- Management of test results and issuing to relevant parties.
- Production of quality documentation including forms, checklists and client reports to facilitate and demonstrate earthworks and materials testing compliance.
- Liaising with the designers, client, clients representatives, including the construction engineer in all aspects of quality of works.
- Material testing excavated material, re-using suitable material where possible.
- Working with project management and engineering staff to improve the quality of work on site.
- Suggesting possible improvements on daily activities and ensuring that production is maximised whilst ensuring quality is maintained at the highest level.
- Promoting health and safety on site.
- Helping to ensure works are completed to programme.
What we are looking for:
- Degree-qualified (or equivalent experience) in Civil, Structural, or Materials Engineering.
- Experienced with earthworks testing procedures, ideally with a minimum of 5 years' experience.
- UKAS Soils Laboratory testing experience beneficial.
- Excellent record keeping and data management skills.
- Strong communication skills and ability to discuss technical aspects with other technical and non-technical individuals.
- Good understanding of Specification for Highway works and general material classifications.
- Relevant qualifications including CSCS Card.
- Strong knowledge of HSQE regulations.
- Computer literacy with good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and other Microsoft Office programmes.
- High level of attention to detail.
- Self-motivated and able to work in a team and by themselves.
- Ability to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines is crucial.
- Site based hours.
- Full UK Driving Licence is also required.
More generally, you will need to be committed, reliable, flexible both in terms of UK travel (and staying away overnight where required) and range of tasks performed and possess a good team-working ethic.
