We have an exciting opportunity for a Bid Manager to join our Head Office team within the Pre-Contract and Tendering Department in Ruthin (with flexibility for partial remote working).
The Bid Manager will lead the preparation, coordination, and submission of high-quality bids and tenders for major civil engineering and infrastructure projects. This includes managing multi-disciplinary inputs, ensuring submissions meet client requirements and deadlines, and developing clear, compelling proposals that reflect the company's technical expertise, innovation, and delivery capability. The role requires strong project management skills, a sound understanding of civil engineering construction methodologies, and the ability to coordinate estimating, design, planning, and commercial inputs to produce winning bids.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the full bid lifecycle from expression of interest through to post-submission clarifications.
- Lead and manage all stages of technical tender submissions, ensuring compliant, coordinated and compelling bid responses.
- Develop tender programmes, integrating design, procurement, construction sequencing, and resourcing.
- Liaise with internal and external bid resources, ensuring delivery of multiple concurrent tenders to required deadlines and quality standards.
- Produce high-quality technical content, including methodologies, approach narratives, detailed delivery project programme, risk assessments and delivery strategies.
- Coordinate the full bid process, ensuring alignment between commercial, technical, planning and supply chain inputs.
- Manage inputs from specialist supply chain partners, such as design consultants, ecology specialists, temporary works, traffic management and others.
- Ensure all tender submissions are compliant, compelling, and professionally presented.
- Prepare and present tender submissions at client interviews and clarification meetings.
- Develop mass-haul and earthworks assessments (training can be provided).
- Ensure continuous improvement, supporting lessons-learned reviews and contributing to bid writing standards, templates and knowledge libraries.
Minimum Requirements:
- Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent proven experience.
- Proven experience managing bids or tenders within the civil engineering or infrastructure sector.
- Strong organisational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent bids.
- Excellent technical writing and document-control capability.
- Understanding of major forms of contract.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and coordinate technical, commercial, and planning disciplines.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable Requirements:
- Experienced professional (Chartered or working toward Chartership advantageous).
- Experience preparing bids for frameworks and design-and-build contracts.
- Proficiency in Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project for developing tender programmes. (Training available)
- Confident presenter with the ability to articulate methodology, programme rationale and delivery strategy.
- Proactive, driven and capable of working both independently and collaboratively.
