About the role:
As a Midweight Developer, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring the success of our web development projects, which are primarily built on the Umbraco CMS platform. You’ll oversee the full development lifecycle, from planning to delivery, and maintain high standards in everything we do. This is a hands-on role, requiring both technical expertise and leadership skills to guide a team and evolve our systems.
Our Current Stack and Approach:
- CMS Platform: Umbraco CMS version 13 for corporate website development.
- Hosting: Microsoft Azure cloud hosting.
- Development Tools: Visual Studio/VS code. Microsoft DevOps for deployment and version control.
- Primary Backend Language: C#.
- Database Management: Microsoft SQL Server.
- Frontend Frameworks: JavaScript, Bootstrap, CSS/SASS. Knowledge of supporting legacy jQuery would be beneficial.
Development Practices: We prioritise robust, well-documented code and maintain tight control over our deployment processes using industry standards and best practices. This role will allow you to build on our current foundation and implement innovative solutions to help us deliver even greater value to our clients. Key Responsibilities:
- Create, maintain, bugfix and enhance corporate websites using Umbraco and C#.
- Maintain and enhance the use of Microsoft Azure and Microsoft DevOps to support secure, scalable, and efficient deployments.
- Champion high-quality, well-documented code that adheres to industry best practices.
- Work as part of a team as well independently on projects.
- Take ownership of the development process, from architecture to testing and deployment.
- Stay ahead of the curve by exploring new technologies and methods that could improve our work.
- Make recommendations and implement those recommendations when you detect legacy code that could be improved.

Essential Skills and Experience:
- Strong communication skills, allowing to build trust and relationships with other departments and clients.

- Experience in software development using C# and Microsoft SQL Server (other similar language and DB experience would be considered).
- Proficiency with Umbraco CMS or similar content management platforms.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure hosting.
- Experience with Microsoft DevOps, including version control and pipelines.
- Experience with JavaScript and Bootstrap as well as legacy jQuery.
- Knowledge of system architecture, debugging.
- Experience building websites from designs provided by designers using CSS/SASS.
- Experience working collaboratively as part of a development team and with code created by other team members which, on occasion, may be legacy.
Desirable Skills:
- A degree in either Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Ability to communicate complex, technical concepts in a simple and effective way, understandable by all.
- Familiarity with modern development standards like Agile, CI/CD.
- A detail-oriented approach to documentation and process improvement.
