This role will suit an experienced Software Engineer with a background in CNC machining, machine tool manufacturing, precision engineering, or industrial automation, who is passionate about developing innovative software solutions that enhance machine connectivity, production efficiency, and customer experience.

Software Engineer – CNC & Connected Manufacturing Solutions

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Software Engineer to join a specialist development team delivering innovative digital solutions for the CNC machining and manufacturing sector.

Working closely with machine tool experts, customers, and fellow developers, you will play a key role in designing and developing software that enables connected manufacturing, machine monitoring, data integration, and operational optimisation.

This is a hands-on role where you will contribute throughout the software development lifecycle, from concept and design through to deployment and customer support.

Experience within a CNC machining, machine tool, precision engineering, or manufacturing environment is highly desirable, enabling you to understand the operational challenges faced by customers and translate them into effective software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable software solutions for industrial and manufacturing applications.
  • Work collaboratively within a small, agile development team to deliver innovative connected manufacturing solutions.
  • Develop machine connectivity, data acquisition, and integration solutions for CNC and industrial equipment.
  • Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code in line with software engineering best practices.
  • Support the deployment, monitoring, and optimisation of applications hosted within AWS environments.
  • Integrate software solutions with customer systems, databases, cloud platforms, and manufacturing technologies.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues across development, testing, and live production environments.
  • Engage directly with customers to understand requirements, provide technical guidance, and support project delivery.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Produce and maintain high-quality technical documentation.

Person Specification

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Experience working within a CNC machining, machine tool, manufacturing, industrial automation, precision engineering, or Industry 4.0 environment.
  • Proven experience working within collaborative software development teams.
  • Ability to engage confidently with customers and explain technical concepts in a clear and practical manner.
  • Understanding of manufacturing environments, machine connectivity, production systems, or industrial data flows.
  • Technical Knowledge
  • Object-oriented and/or functional programming principles.
  • API development and systems integration.
  • Version control systems, particularly Git.
  • Automated testing, debugging, and software quality assurance methodologies.
  • Database Experience
  • Strong SQL knowledge including querying, optimisation, and data modelling.
  • Experience with relational databases such as Postgre SQL, My SQL, or SQL Server.
  • Understanding of database performance, indexing, and data integrity.
  • Experience integrating applications with cloud-hosted databases.
  • AWS & Cloud Technologies

Experience with one or more of the following technologies

  • AWS
  • Application deployment, monitoring, and support
  • Amazon RDS, Dynamo DB, or equivalent managed database services
  • C++
  • Go (Golang)
  • Bash / Shell scripting

Knowledge of industrial communication protocols, machine networking, or manufacturing systems would also be beneficial.
