Overview:
- We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Technician to join our clients specialist engineering and manufacturing environment focused on the assembly and integration of advanced automated and process systems.
- This is a hands-on role suited to a mechanically skilled technician who has experience working with precision mechanical assemblies, engineering drawings, high-accuracy measurement equipment and complex machinery including breakdown, repairs and troubleshooting.
- You will be involved in the mechanical activities including adjustment, alignment and integration of advanced equipment, ensuring assemblies are completed safely, accurately and to the required quality standards.
- The role would suit candidates with backgrounds such as Mechanical Fitter, Mechanical Assembly Technician, Precision Mechanical Fitter, Mechanical Technician, Machine Assembly Technician, Mechanical Integration Technician or Metrology Technician.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out mechanical assembly and integration activities on complex automated and process equipment.
- Interpret engineering drawings, mechanical blueprints and assembly documentation.
- Prepare the required materials, components, tools and equipment before commencing assembly activities.
- Assemble, adjust, align and position mechanical components to required specifications and tolerances.
- Use precision measurement and metrology equipment to verify dimensions, alignment and positional accuracy.
- Use equipment such as laser trackers, interferometry systems or similar high-precision measurement technology.
- Measure and assess characteristics including straightness, positioning, angularity and alignment.
- Carry out mechanical adjustments to achieve the required accuracy and performance.
- Assemble and tighten bolted joints in accordance with the relevant technical procedures and specifications.
- Work with mechanical, pneumatic and, where required, electrical systems as part of the wider equipment integration process.
- Identify and report technical issues that may affect the assembly, quality or delivery of the equipment.
- Record assembly progress, issues and measurements accurately and clearly.
- Work in accordance with company quality, health and safety and environmental procedures.
- Apply 5S and continuous improvement principles within the assembly environment.
- Care for and correctly use all tools, equipment and measurement systems.
- Contribute ideas to improve assembly methods, processes and equipment.
- Support the sharing of technical knowledge and best practice across the wider engineering and assembly teams.
What We Are Looking For:
- The ideal candidate will have experience in a precision mechanical assembly, mechanical fitting, machine building, equipment installation or mechanical integration environment.
Essential Experience
- Proven experience in mechanical assembly, mechanical fitting or the integration of complex machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical engineering drawings, blueprints and technical documentation.
- Experience using precision measurement and metrology equipment.
- Proven experience with laser trackers, interferometry or comparable high-accuracy measurement systems.
- Experience measuring and assessing straightness, positioning, angularity and alignment.
- Experience carrying out mechanical adjustment and precision alignment activities.
- Mechanical vocational training, apprenticeship, HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Desirable Experience
- Knowledge of pneumatic systems.
- Basic knowledge of electrical systems.
- Experience working with automated machinery, process systems, special-purpose machinery or advanced manufacturing equipment.
- Experience with torque-controlled assembly and the tightening of bolted joints.
- Experience working within a 5S, lean manufacturing or continuous improvement environment.
