We are recruiting for an experienced Project Engineer to work on Advanced Metering Infrastructure projects on the island of Jersey. This is a really exciting role that turns AMI system design into something that works safely, consistently, and at scale in the real world.

As the AMI Project Engineer Field Installation Specialist, you will act as the critical link between system designers, business processes, vendors, and the people installing and commissioning equipment in live customer environments. The role will be heavily involved in translating technical designs and vendor documentation into clear, practical installation standards and processes that field teams can rely on, while also being the trusted technical escalation point when reality doesn’t follow the plan.

Your work ensures that AMI deployment is not just technically correct, but installable, repeatable, safe, and supportable, and that learning from the field continuously improves system configuration, training, and future rollout activity.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, validate, and maintain AMI installation standards, wiring diagrams, and technical instructions for single-phase, three-phase, CT and VT metering installations.
  • Create and maintain clear, field-ready installation and commissioning documentation aligned to business processes and AMI system workflows.
  • Cover end-to-end activities including installation, replacement, commissioning, and acceptance.
  • Act as the primary technical escalation point for complex, non-standard, or high-risk field issues, ensuring issues are resolved safely, efficiently, and with lessons captured.
  • Continuous improvement feedback loop and capture insights from pilot and rollout activity.
  • Feed learning back into system configuration, installation standards, training materials, and processes.
  • Support FAT, SIT, UAT, and SAT activities: Validate installation-related scenarios, acceptance criteria, and real-world operability.
  • Support the development and delivery of installer training, toolbox talks, and technical briefings.
  • Work closely with Installer Team Leaders to build confidence, capability, and consistency.
  • Ensure installation methods, tooling, and procedures meet internal safety standards and regulatory requirements, and identify unsafe practices early and drive corrective action.
  • Work closely with Metering Engineers, AMI Engineers, Systems Administrators, and project teams to ensure physical installation, system configuration, and operational processes remain aligned.
Experience, knowledge, and qualifications:
  • Strong background in electricity metering installation and commissioning.
  • Experience with both single-phase and three-phase installations.
  • Proven support to field teams operating in live customer environments.
  • Experience supporting large-scale rollout or replacement programmes.
  • Exposure to smart metering systems and commissioning processes.
  • Practical understanding of CT and VT metering arrangements.
  • Familiarity with utility AMI and/or MDM environments.
Qualifications:
  • Electrical engineering qualification or equivalent practical experience.
  • Relevant electrical authorisations (e.g. LV authorised).
  • Full, clean driving licence.
