Electrical Engineer – Power Generation

Plymouth

Overview:

A leading energy provider is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join its Engineering department at a major power generation site.

The role will be responsible for safeguarding the long-term integrity of all HV and LV electrical systems, ensuring the highest standards of safety, reliability, technical excellence, and legal compliance.

The successful candidate will act as a subject matter expert, providing specialist support, guidance, and technical advice to Engineering and Maintenance teams, while driving long-term planning and through-life management — including obsolescence strategies — for the site’s electrical infrastructure and systems.

The Role:

This role sits within one of the UK and Ireland’s largest independent power generators, operating a diverse portfolio of renewable, flexible, and conventional generation assets. The business has grown rapidly, with a strong entrepreneurial culture, a lean leadership structure, and a focus on innovation, reliability, and enabling the low-carbon energy transition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with internal Electrical Engineering Technical Procedures and all relevant legislation.
  • Define maintenance and inspection requirements for electrical systems.
  • Identify, specify, and manage electrical-focused contracts, including contractor performance and safety.
  • Contribute to the rolling 5-year business plan for electrical systems, including budget management and phasing of expenditure.
  • Plan and lead electrical inspection works during scheduled outages to maintain integrity, reliability, and compliance.
  • Provide specialist electrical expertise and advice on both short-term operational issues and long-term asset strategy.

  • Technical Background
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience with HV and LV electrical systems, including transmission and distribution.
  • Expertise in HV and LV protection systems.
  • Experience in DSEAR management and compliance.
