We are seeking an experienced Engineering / CAD Checker (Mechanical Design Checker) to take ownership of technical accuracy, compliance, and quality assurance across all engineering drawings, 3D models, and manufacturing documentation.
This is a key quality-critical engineering role ensuring all design outputs meet BS 8888 standards, GD&T requirements, ISO 9001 compliance, and manufacturability expectations before release to production and customers.
You will act as the final technical authority on engineering drawings and play a vital role in reducing errors, improving consistency, and supporting continuous improvement across the engineering function.
- Check and approve 2D drawings, 3D CAD models, BOMs, and engineering documentation for accuracy, clarity, and compliance.
- Verify GD&T application, tolerance stack-ups, datum structures, and limits & fits.
- Ensure designs are manufacturable and aligned to sheet metal fabrication constraints.
- Provide constructive feedback to design engineers to improve quality and consistency.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce rework and design-related defects.
- Ensure all outputs comply with ISO 9001 quality management systems.
Qualifications:
- HNC/HND (with 10+ years) OR Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar) with 6+ years’ experience.
- Strong background in industrial sheet metal or steel fabrication.
- Proven experience in CAD design checking or engineering drawing approval.
- Manufacturing processes and Design for Manufacture (DFM).
- Experience with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks / Inventor / Creo or similar).
- Confident communicator with ability to influence design engineers.
- Exposure to tolerance stack-up analysis tools or methodologies.
- Take ownership of engineering quality at a senior technical level.
- Work closely with engineering leadership in a structured, quality-driven environment.
