Systems Safety Engineer

As a Systems Safety Engineer, you'll help shape safer products through clear hazard thinking, robust analysis, and practical engineering influence.

What You Will Do

• As a Systems Safety Engineer, lead and support hazard identification, safety assessment, and failure analysis across the product lifecycle.
• Perform safety and reliability analyses, including FMEA and FMECA, to identify design weaknesses and drive effective mitigations.
• Create and maintain a hazard log, ensuring hazards, actions, and verification evidence remain traceable and closed.
• Define and derive safety requirements with strong traceability from hazards through to implementation and verification.
• Support the development of the safety case by structuring arguments, linking evidence, and aligning outputs to applicable standards.
• Deliver high-quality safety documentation, contribute to safety reviews and workshops, and ensure verification and validation confirm mitigations work.

What You Will Bring

• Experience applying safety standards and industry practices (including Def Stan 00-056, MIL-STD 1629, MIL-HDBK-217F, ARP4761 and ARP4754 where applicable).
• Hands-on knowledge of hazard analysis techniques such as PHA, FHA, FTA, and Event Tree Analysis (ETA).
• The ability to work with complex evidence and produce clear, traceable documentation for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Confidence influencing engineering decisions in safety-critical contexts, with a structured, methodical approach to risk management.
• A willingness to obtain and maintain the required UK security clearance level for defence programmes.
