Overview: Are you a technically minded sales professional who thrives on bespoke engineering solutions, complex bids, and building long-term client relationships? This is an opportunity to join a growing engineering-led business where technical credibility, commercial awareness, and customer focus truly matter.
The Role: You’ll play a key role in driving sales growth by managing technical enquiries from initial concept through to quotation and contract handover. Working closely with engineering, production, suppliers, and customers, you’ll ensure competitive, accurate, and profitable proposals — particularly for non-standard, bespoke equipment. This is a hands-on role combining technical understanding, commercial judgement, and relationship management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage incoming sales enquiries, ensuring timely, professional, and accurate responses
- Prepare high-quality quotations that are commercially competitive and technically robust
- Carry out preliminary mechanical design and calculations to support bespoke quotations
- Calculate accurate costs and realistic delivery lead times to maximise profitability
- Clearly identify and communicate any deviations from customer specifications
- Attend bid clarification meetings and respond to technical and commercial queries
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, agents, suppliers, and subcontractors
- Develop a strong understanding of customers’ businesses, markets, and future projects
- Conduct contract reviews on successful orders and ensure clear handover to engineering and production
- Maintain well-organised enquiry and quotation records in line with internal procedures
- Support bid planning and prioritisation in the absence of the Sales Manager
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience in technical sales, proposals, bids, or applications engineering
- Strong mechanical engineering understanding (degree or equivalent experience)
- Proven experience quoting bespoke or non-standard engineered equipment
- Confident producing costings, lead times, and commercially sound proposals
- Comfortable liaising with customers at both technical and commercial levels
- Highly organised, detail-focused, and able to manage multiple enquiries simultaneously
- Commercially aware with a strong focus on margin and customer satisfaction
Why Apply?
- Work on challenging, bespoke engineering projects rather than catalogue sales
- Be trusted to use your technical expertise to influence real commercial outcomes
- Collaborate closely with engineering and production teams
- Join a business focused on quality, safety, and continuous improvement
- Play a visible role in driving growth and profitability
If you’re looking for a role where your engineering knowledge and sales capability are equally valued, this is an opportunity to make a real impact.
