The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Electrical Manufacturing Support Engineer to join a specialist engineering business supporting the manufacture and development of bespoke electro-mechanical equipment for highly regulated industries. This role offers a varied blend of electrical design, manufacturing support, engineering change management and product improvement activities. It would suit an Electrical Design Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Product Support Engineer or Electro-Mechanical Engineer looking to work on complex, low-volume, high-value products.
The Role
Working within a multi-disciplinary engineering team, you will be responsible for reviewing and updating engineering documentation, supporting manufacturing operations, resolving technical issues and ensuring both legacy and new products remain compliant, manufacturable and fit for purpose.
Key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing and updating electrical schematics, wiring schedules and technical drawings
- Modifying and maintaining 2D and 3D CAD models and manufacturing data packs
- Managing Bills of Materials (BoMs) and engineering documentation
- Identifying and resolving component obsolescence issues
- Selecting and qualifying replacement components
- Supporting production teams with technical queries and fault resolution
- Processing engineering changes and maintaining design integrity
- Creating build guides and manufacturing instructions
- Ensuring designs comply with customer specifications, industry standards and regulatory requirements
- Supporting testing, fault finding and Factory Acceptance Testing activities
- Liaising with suppliers, fabricators and subcontractors to ensure products are manufactured as intended
About You
We are looking for a practical, hands-on engineer who enjoys solving problems and working across the full product lifecycle. You will ideally have:
- Experience in Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Electro-Mechanical Design
- Ability to read, interpret and produce electrical schematics
- Experience supporting manufacturing or production environments
- Knowledge of engineering change control and configuration management
- Experience maintaining Bills of Materials and technical documentation
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- The ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
Essential Experience
- Electrical engineering, product development and manufacturing experience
- Electrical fault finding, low voltage control systems and use of test equipment
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and sheet metal fabrication
- Experience creating engineering solutions from customer requirements
- Ability to work to industry standards, specifications and regulatory requirements
- Strong time management and project prioritisation skills
Desirable Experience
- Autodesk Electrical
- Autodesk Inventor 3D CAD
- Autodesk Vault
- Low voltage power distribution and control systems
- Defence, marine, rail, aerospace or highly regulated manufacturing environments
- Knowledge of IEC, BS7671, 18th Edition, DEF-STAN or similar engineering standards
Qualifications
Applicants should possess one of the following:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or General Engineering
- HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- Equivalent industry experience gained within a relevant engineering environment
