An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join an Aerospace and Defence Research Organisation within the Milton Keynes area. The successful Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will join the Engineering Team and will play an integral part in the development of world leading capabilities and the cutting edge of Aerospace research. The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will report to the Design Team Leader and Engineering Managers.
The successful Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will be skilled and must have a sound knowledge of part and assembly design, structural analysis and modern manufacturing techniques. The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will be self-starters, organised, able to prioritise and used to working under pressure.
Responsibilities of the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer:- Carry out static stress calculations using hand methods and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
- Produce detailed stress reports to present stress calculations and FEA results.
- Participate in reviewing the work of others, including checking of stress reports & approvals.
- Assist in the preparation of bids and work breakdowns for projects within department.
- Liaise with production engineers to assist specification of manufacturing processes.
- Assist Manufacturing/Inspection/Fitting departments to resolve design issues.
- Liaise with test and rigging teams to ensure methods of best practice are applied.
- Provide technical leadership for projects within the design team, working within schedule.
- Participate in the development of team members, offering support and guidance.
- Lead a small team of design engineers, providing technical leadership on the given project.
- Function as a technical specialist in the mechanical design area for the business.
- Strong understanding of mechanical principles, stress analysis and engineering drawings.
- Extensive experience of manufacturing/production systems, procedures, machines & tools.
- Be capable of applying problem-solving techniques in a logical, competent & timely manner.
- Ability to organise and manage workload in conjunction with the project manager.
- Strong project management and time-management skills with People Management skills.
- Have a natural creativity and curiosity for mechanical design and competent with CATIA V5.
- Competent with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Power-point).
- Be a confident, self-motivated individual committed to ensuring customer satisfaction.
- The successful candidate will have relevant experience, with a qualification in related Mechanical Engineering or technical discipline (degree preferred).
