We are currently recruiting for an experienced Quality Controller (QC) to work for our client at their facility in Bolton. The role is heavily involved in ensuring products and services meet defined quality standards and functional requirements. This is an exciting role responsible for delivering and adhering to company quality processes, documentation, and inspection standards across all business activities.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Non-conformance reports (NCRs) for shortages or defective goods received from clients.
  • NCRs for non-conforming outsourced components.
  • On-Time, In-Full (OTIF) delivery performance.
  • Customer feedback and satisfaction.
  • Timely resolution of customer issues.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Execute quality processes and procedures; report quality variances to the Quality Manager.
  • Collaborate to ensure inspection methods and quality processes are fit for purpose.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and lessons learned reviews.
  • Monitor and control calibrated items and verification tools.
  • Ensure all inspected components are traceable to purchase orders or project numbers.
  • Verify incoming goods (including kits) meet specifications and documentation requirements; reject defective items in a timely manner.
  • Confirm certifications (Mill Certificates, Certificates of Conformity) are correct and traceable.
  • Conduct supplier and vendor inspections as required.
  • Identify, document, and report defects, deviations, and non-conformities.
  • Conduct dimensional, visual, and functional inspections using equipment such as CMM arms, micrometers, and verniers.
  • Maintain accurate quality records using defined systems (e.g., MRP, MyCompliance) or written formats.
  • Inspect kits/components prior to issue and record anomalies.
  • Assist in developing Quality Control inspection plans and routings.
  • Perform inspections on internally produced components, including stock items, laser-cut plates, and pressed sections.
  • Ensure inspections conform to quality plans, inspection and test plans, routings, and other controlling documents.
  • Conduct in-process and final inspections, including weld inspections and verification of fabrication drawings.
  • Ensure non-destructive testing (NDT) is completed when required, with reports logged appropriately.
  • Inspect surface treatments to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Verify finished goods are undamaged, packed correctly, and documented for dispatch.
  • Liaise with client inspection teams as needed.
  • Produce and maintain NCRs, and assist with root cause investigations.
  • Support project close-out reviews and lessons learned exercises.
  • Comply with health and safety responsibilities, including monitoring hazardous substances where applicable.
  • Perform any other ad hoc duties appropriate to the role.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills:

  • Certified licenses for operating site-approved forklifts and overhead cranes.
  • Apprentice trained or equivalent experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial environment.
  • Skilled in selecting and using appropriate inspection equipment.
  • Strong IT literacy, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills across all levels.
  • Experienced in using inspection equipment such as CMM arms, micrometers, and verniers.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing tolerances and industry quality standards.
  • Knowledge of materials and their properties.
  • Excellent observational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Able to work independently and proactively set and monitor workloads.
  • Team player with the ability to build effective working relationships.
  • Willingness to work additional hours when required to meet business goals.
  • Strong commitment to promoting SHEQ values and contributing to team success.
