Manufacturing Engineer – Industrial Systems and Engineering – West Midlands

A Manufacturing Engineer is required to join an International Industrial Systems and Engineering company that Designs, Manufactures, Assembles, Tests and Commissions Industrial Systems. The successful Manufacturing Engineer will report to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager. This role provides manufacturing technical knowledge and instruction from the design stage to the completion of manufacture. The Manufacturing Engineer will also work with the design team for DFM to enable the company to make available new technologies and capabilities, and will be involved with Continuous Improvements to processes that will increase productivity, efficiency, quality, and waste elimination.
The Manufacturing Engineer will be involved with the following:
- Instructing the most efficient method of manufacture of components and assemblies.
- Ensuring safety and the correct quality requirements are met using the route card system.
- Generating manufacturing documentation in the form of inspection and test plans.
- Writing technical customer documents such as production permits, concessions & NCR’s.
- Conducting make/buy assessments based on cost, in-house capability, and resources.
- Generating route cards with accurate timings for manufacturing activities.
- Reviewing drawings and plans during the design phase.
- Providing correct instructions for manufacture in the most productive way.
- Inputting, controlling, and updating manufacturing data with production control and MRP systems.
- Identifying waste and non-value adding activities and seeking changes to eliminate or minimize them.
- Supporting the tendering process and development of manufacturing strategies.
- Raising NCR’s and contributing to closing out NCR’s when activities and processes do not conform.
- Utilizing methods such as 5 Why’s, DMAIC & root cause analysis for continuous improvements.
- Updating and following through manufacturing drawings, documentation, and quality updates.
The Manufacturing Engineer should have some of the following Qualifications, Skills, or Experience:
- Experience in a manufacturing role in a lean environment of graduate calibre.
- In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, including at least two of: Machining, Mechanical assembly, Welding, and/or Electronic/Electrical assembly.
- Knowledge of various welding processes.
- Understanding of how each process affects materials and how to prevent distortion and weld defects.
- Knowledge of inspection processes and how designs affect accuracy, time scale/results.
- Able to read/interpret engineering drawings and provide detailed instructions for manufacture.
- Providing purchasing with clear instructions on materials and parts needed to manufacture a component or assembly to the correct quality requirements.
- Ability to communicate clear written and verbal instructions to all levels of personnel.
- Working in an organized manner to review designs and offer advice on manufacturability.
- Producing detailed manufacturing instructions for planners, operators, inspectors, and quality personnel.
- Understanding and working to the right first-time culture and contributing to the whole process.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software and able to learn and run in-house software systems.
- A person focused on the customer, safety, quality, and cost.
- A collaborative individual who shares knowledge, delivers results, and provides solutions.
- Someone who builds teams, adapts to change, and acts with integrity and professionalism.
- Ability to work with people and develop them with a positive attitude.
