The Opportunity
We’re looking for a commercially driven and experienced Indirect / Category Buyer to join a high-performing procurement function in Oxfordshire. This is far more than a transactional buying role. You’ll take ownership of a varied and strategically important indirect spend portfolio covering Facilities Management, Utilities, EHS and Projects, with the opportunity to shape category strategies, influence stakeholders, negotiate with suppliers and deliver measurable commercial value across the organisation. What will you be responsible for?
- Developing and implementing category strategies across FM, Utilities, EHS and Project spend.
- Analysing spend, market conditions and supplier capability to identify savings and value-creation opportunities.
- Identifying opportunities to consolidate spend across multiple locations and maximise purchasing power.
- Leading end-to-end sourcing activity including RFI, RFQ, RFP, tendering, evaluation and negotiation.
- Developing commercial evaluation models and supplier comparison analysis.
- Negotiating pricing, payment terms, SLAs, contractual terms, warranties and commercial agreements.
- Challenging specifications and requirements to ensure commercially effective solutions.
- Managing supplier relationships and performance against agreed KPIs, SLAs, cost, quality and service levels.
- Leading supplier reviews and corrective action plans where required.
- Building strong relationships with stakeholders across Operations, Finance, HR, HSE, Legal, IT, Administration and site management.
- Acting as a trusted procurement business partner across your assigned categories.
- Ensuring procurement activity meets internal policies, governance requirements and relevant legislation.
What are we looking for?
- Proven experience managing indirect procurement categories, particularly for professional services, facilities management, utilities, EHS and project spend.
- Strategic procurement / category buying experience.
- A proven background in strategic sourcing, competitive tendering, negotiation, contract management and supplier performance.
- Experience managing spend across multiple sites, locations or business units.
- Strong commercial and analytical capability.
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- Experience with ERP (SAP/ARIBA) and procurement systems and strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant business tools.
- A degree in Procurement, Supply Chain, Business, Finance, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Professional procurement qualification such as CIPS is desirable.
