CNC Setter/Operator – Aerospace and Defence – Permanent

An opportunity has arisen for a CNC Setter/Operator to join an Aerospace and Defence Research Organisation within the Milton Keynes area. The successful CNC Setter/Operator will join the Engineering Team and will play an integral part in the development of world leading capabilities and the cutting edge of Aerospace research. The CNC Setter/Operator will report to the Supervisor and Production Manager. The successful CNC Setter/Operator will be a skilled and experienced CNC Machinist and this role is critical to the production of high-value, one-off components for the company. Responsibilities of the CNC Setter/Operator
- Perform on-line programming and setting tasks on CNC machines using Heidenhein controls.
- Training can be provided if you have experience with other control systems.
- Set up and operate 3, 4, and 5-axis CNC machines with a high degree of precision/efficiency.
- Accurately interpret technical drawings and specification with an understanding of GD&T.
- Apply in-depth knowledge of machining processes, tooling, and materials.
- Operate multiple machines as required to meet production schedules.
- Communicate and coordinate effectively with the CNC Supervisor, Production Manager and other departments to provide clear progress updates.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills Required for the CNC Setter/Operator
- Proven experience as a CNC machinist with understanding of 3 & 5-axis programs.
- Skilled in CNC set-up, including preparation of tooling, fixtures, and work pieces.
- Experience in on-line CNC programming, with strong problem-solving abilities for set-ups and real-time adjustments.
- Knowledge in the set-up and operation of CNC Milling Machines.
- Experience in manual milling and turning.
- Experience using cylindrical grinders and flat bed grinders
- Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring tight tolerances on bespoke one-off components.
- Effective communication skills with team members, technical leads, and management.
- Possession of an HNC, HND, City & Guilds qualification in a related field, apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience in CNC machining and programming.
- Demonstrate understanding of and adherence to Health and Safety standards.
