Overview
Inventory Accountant, Jollyes Pets (retail) based Waltham Abbey (Hybrid role). Also known as a ‘Stock Accountant’. An exciting time to join an award-winning retail business in a newly created role to ensure the accuracy and integrity of stock-related financial data across the business, supporting decision making across finance, operations and supply chain teams. Our Inventory Accountant will help to reduce losses and optimise stock levels to enhance our customer experience, which will be crucial in our growth plan.

Salary commensurate with your level of experience. This is a full-time, hybrid role involving a minimum of 3 office days per week at our pet-friendly support office in Waltham Abbey (Essex) and up to 2 days per week from home (or another Jollyes location as preferred). 37.5 hours per week.
The Role – Inventory Accountant
Reporting to our Financial Controller, this role plays a crucial part within the wider finance team, acting as the bridge between financial reporting and operational inventory management. You will collaborate with retail operations, IT, supply chain and commercial colleagues to obtain accurate information, validate data, investigate discrepancies and monitor shrinkage, ensuring financial accuracy in reporting and compliance, and supporting strategic decision making through reliable inventory data to enhance customer experience by maintaining optimum stock levels.

- Maintain accurate stock records across all systems and locations
- Reconcile stock balances between ERP, POS, and warehouse systems
- Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies and variances
- Monitor stock adjustments, write-offs, and transfers
- Liaise with store managers and warehouse teams to validate stock counts
- Prepare monthly stock reports and journals for financial reporting
- Support month-end and year-end close processes related to inventory
- Assist in stock audits and physical inventory counts
- Analyse stock ageing and obsolescence trends
- Collaborate with procurement and merchandising teams on stock valuation
The Skills – Inventory Accountant
To be successful in this role, you’ll need the following skills, experience and qualities:
- Proven experience in a stock / inventory accounting role
- Experience in retail or FMCG environments required
- Proficient with VBA and familiar with ERP and POS systems
- Exposure to stock audits and reconciliations
- Relevant accounting qualification such as ACCA/CIMA or equivalent
- Strong analytical and numerical skills
- Proficiency in Excel and accounting software (e.g., Sage, SAP)
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving ability
- Ability to communicate effectively with non-finance stakeholders
- Organised and able to manage multiple priorities
