Join to apply for the Tax Senior role at Johnston Carmichael Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers. As a Tax Senior, you will work closely with the Private Client tax team and Client Relationship Managers, assisting in the preparation of personal and business tax returns as well as on advisory matters. We are flexible on location within our Aberdeen and Inverurie offices.

The Tax Senior will be responsible for (but not limited to):

  • Managing a portfolio of clients on compliance and advisory work.
  • Working with the Tax Assistant Managers and Managers in delivering advisory projects across a range of private client areas.
  • Preparing Partnership Tax Returns for a varied portfolio of businesses.
  • Processing Tax Return information and preparing Self-Assessment Tax Returns for a varied portfolio of clients, including trusts.
  • Dealing with loss relief claims, pension charges and capital gains tax reliefs.
  • Completion of CGT 60-day returns for residential property disposals.
  • Liaising with clients and HM Revenue & Customs in relation to basic tax and national insurance queries.
  • Checking statements of account, repayments, payments and dealing with clients' queries regarding these.
  • Reviewing simple tax returns prepared by tax assistants.
  • Planning, scheduling and delegating work to Tax Assistants and students, including developing staff and providing feedback.
  • Providing support to the Tax Manager/Senior Tax Manager.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally be ATT/CIOT qualified or near to completion (or experience equivalent).

  • A leader of your work and your professional learning.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to positively impact and influence others.
  • Relevant experience in this or a similar role is preferred.
  • A willingness to develop their tax knowledge.
  • A good level of numerical, written English, communication and team working skills.
