Lyons Recruitment are exclusively assisting Johnsons Nurseries in their search for a Sales Estimator!
Founded in 1921, Johnsons Nurseries is the UKs leading supplier of hardy landscape Trees & Shrubs to the commercial landscape sector and ornamental shrubs to Garden Centres nationally. This is known as the Hardy Nursery Stock sector.
Due to ongoing growth, they are looking for someone to lead and manage the comprehensive preparation of sales tenders and bids for Landscape Supply and Key Account sectors, ensuring timely and competitive quotations are delivered to customers.
This will involve strategic negotiation, meticulous price book management and effective communication with key stakeholders to maximise sales opportunities.
You will receive a range of benefits including:

As Sales Estimator at Johnsons Nurseries, you will:
  • Be responsible for the end-to-end completion of plant tenders and complex bids by thoroughly analysing plans, bills of quantity, specifications, and other project documents to return accurate and highly competitive estimated costs.
  • Proactively research, source, and obtain the most competitive prices from homegrown production and quotes from suppliers, cultivating strong internal and supplier relationships to ensure optimal material costs.
  • Lead negotiation efforts with clients and suppliers to secure favourable terms and conditions for bids and sales, aiming to meet or exceed agreed margin targets.
  • Deal with enquiries in a professional and responsible manner, providing expert guidance and recommending products to maximise sales opportunities, profit, and margin, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Develop, maintain, and regularly update a comprehensive price book and costing models for all products and services, ensuring accuracy and competitiveness.
  • Analyse market trends, supplier pricing, and internal costs to optimise pricing strategies and ensure profitability across all tenders and quotations.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations and accepted safe practices at all times.
  • Report any health and safety issues or contraventions witnessed anywhere within the business to your manager or a director promptly.
What were looking for in a Sales Estimator
  • A proven track record and previous experience in estimating
  • Horticulture experience would be great, however experience in construction, landscaping, quantity surveying or in a business that grows products would also be useful.
  • A sales driven approach, analytically minded with good mathematical skills.
  • Driven, commercial and self-motivated.
  • Tech savvy, with the ability to improve operational efficiencies.
  • Comfortable being office based near Kirk Hammerton, between Harrogate & York with easy access to the A1 and Cattal train station.
