Role Description

This full-time hybrid role is based in Newport, with a mix of on-site work and some work-from-home flexibility.

The 18th Edition Qualified LV & HV Engineer will carry out installation, commissioning, maintenance, fault-finding, and repair of LV and HV switchgear, transformers, and related power distribution equipment up to 66k V.

Day-to-day tasks include performing routine inspections, testing and diagnostics, preparing accurate reports, and ensuring work complies with the latest electrical regulations and company safety standards.

The engineer will support emergency and disaster recovery call-outs, collaborate with project and service teams, and interact with clients to explain technical findings and recommend solutions.

The role also involves planning work schedules, keeping documentation up to date, and contributing to continuous improvement of engineering practices and customer service.

Qualifications

  • 18th Edition (BS 7671) qualification and strong knowledge of LV and HV electrical systems, switchgear, and transformers.
  • Proven experience in installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of power distribution equipment up to 66k V.
  • Competence in electrical testing, fault diagnosis, and use of relevant test instruments and tools.
  • Sound understanding of electrical safety procedures, risk assessment, and compliance with industry regulations and standards.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manufacturer documentation.
  • Effective communication skills for working with colleagues, contractors, and customers, including clear technical reporting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and capability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to support out-of-hours or emergency work when required, including participation in disaster recovery activities.
  • Valid UK driving license and readiness to travel to customer sites as needed.
  • Relevant engineering apprenticeship, NVQ, or HNC/HND in Electrical or Power Engineering (or equivalent experience).
