Position summary: JMT is seeking a Commissioning Project Manager to manage and execute facilities commissioning projects; contributing to our more than 25-year history and reputation of providing quality commissioning services to major facility owners in the mid-Atlantic region. Our established business relationships result in JMT serving as an integral partner and trusted technical resource where we ensure that projects are delivered to meet the high-quality standards our clients have come to expect. Upon joining JMT the Commissioning Project Manager will be joining an existing staff of knowledgeable engineering and commissioning professionals across all JMT\’s regional offices.
The Commissioning Project Manager is responsible for delivering all objectives for assigned projects including: initial project planning, scope development and management, fee development and management, schedule development and management, project team and task coordination, stakeholder communication, risk management, resource management, quality assurance, and reporting.
The ideal candidate will have extensive background in delivering building systems (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, special systems, architecture, etc.) commissioning projects. Candidate will be proficient at independently managing and executing commissioning projects while responding to client requests.
Initially this position may involve some production work, either self-performed or delegated to junior staff with quality control reviews. This may include work in the field as a means to supervise and train junior staff. Ideally the responsibilities of this position will transition to full-time project management with production and quality control responsibilities delegated to senior members of the project team.
In addition to project management and technical skills, the ideal candidate will have experience with and a desire to fully understand the business side of the practice including; business development, client management, financial performance, staff development, and overseeing the quality of our products and services. Existing long-term, repeated client relationships are a plus.
Compensation for this position is $125k – $180k annually commensurate with experience, education, and certifications. The provided range is a good faith estimate based on the requirements described within the job description.

Essential functions and responsibilities:
- Client management: Build relationships with clients to understand preferences and requirements to properly set-up and execute a quality project.
- Collaborates with multiple disciplines and subconsultants to develop a risk adverse project scope, fee / budget, and schedule.
- Assist Section Heads, Practice Leaders, and Office Leaders with the marketing process including, SMART Go/No Go decisions, proposal development, and interviews.
- Manages project(s) in accordance with scope, fee / budget, and schedule.
- Monitor and manage project progress and execution, including identifying and mitigating risks, preparing invoices, and developing extra work order requests.
- Manage multi-discipline project teams, including interoffice and subconsultants, and technical resources to ensure the delivery of a high-quality outcome.
- Plan, schedule, coordinate, and conduct commissioning activities.
- Assist in the resolution of a variety of complex problems that may arise throughout the lifecycle of a commissioning project.
- Serve as a liaison between clients, contractors, subcontractors, and design teams.
- Communicate project status, updates, and issues to internal and external stakeholders.
- Participate in client presentations
- Participate in office\’s project financial status meetings.
- Prepare progress reports and review invoices.
- Provide technical guidance and supervision of work performed by junior commissioning / engineering staff
- Providing coaching and mentorship to the project team through one-on-one check-in meetings and various project debriefs to acknowledge achievements, identify areas for improvement, and share lessons learned.
- Lead and manage team members by providing leadership and continuous performance management (setting expectations, goals, feedback, 1:1 meeting, coaching) that supports the growth and development of team.

Required Experience
- Bachelor\’s degree in engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited engineering program
- Commissioning certification
- 10+ years of experience in providing and managing commissioning services, particularly for building systems (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Architectural, Special Systems)
- Experience managing multidiscipline project teams
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Strong Communication and Presentation Skills
Qualifications preferred:
- Experience with commissioning process management software (Facility Grid, CxAlloy, etc.)
- Experience with Building Automation Systems (Johnson Controls, Automated Logic, Siemens, Trane, etc.)
- Professional Engineer License
- Holds or ability to obtain security clearance
Working Conditions:
Work is expected to be performed within a general office environment 80% of the time, with the ability to transition to 95% as project teams are established. Office work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
Field work on occasion may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs ) may be required as needed.
Travel less than 5% to consist of overnight travel. Travel within the MD, PA, and VA regions to be expected.
