Solicitor –Civil Litigation
3–5 Years' PQE | £45,000–£60,000 DOE | Beckenham, London Borough of Bromley
Johnson May Solicitors is a growing boutique law firm based in Beckenham, London Borough of Bromley. We are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Solicitor with approximately 3–5 years' PQE to join our team on a permanent basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for a litigator who enjoys taking ownership of their files, developing strong client relationships and working on a varied caseload within a small and ambitious practice.
Our work includes debt recovery, property and land disputes, landlord and tenant matters, contractual disputes, company and shareholder disputes, and other commercial and civil litigation.
The Role
You will take day-to-day conduct of your own caseload, working closely with the Managing Director and other members of the team.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing and progressing a varied litigation caseload;
- Advising clients on litigation strategy, risk, costs and settlement options;
- Conducting client meetings and providing clear, practical and commercially focused advice;
- Drafting and reviewing pleadings, witness statements, applications and other court documents;
- Managing matters through the litigation process and ensuring court and procedural deadlines are met;
- Instructing and working effectively with Counsel and other experts;
- Negotiating settlements and participating in mediation and other forms of ADR;
- Maintaining strong client relationships and providing a responsive and professional service;
- Managing WIP, billing and funds on account appropriately;
- Supporting and supervising junior members of the team; and
- Contributing to the continued development and growth of the Firm.
About You
We are looking for a solicitor who:
- Is qualified in England & Wales with approximately 3–5 years' PQE;
- Has solid civil litigation experience, with experience of property litigation and debt recovery;
- Has experience of commercial, contractual or business disputes;
- Is confident managing their own caseload with appropriate supervision;
- Has strong drafting, analytical and organisational skills and a good understanding of civil procedure;
- Provides excellent client care and communicates confidently with clients, opponents, Counsel and the Court;
- Is commercially aware and comfortable discussing costs and funding with clients;
- Is proactive, practical and solutions-focused; and
- Enjoys working collaboratively within a small team and would like to contribute to the growth of a boutique practice.
We are interested in finding a strong and versatile litigator who is keen to develop their experience across a varied litigation caseload.

Location

The role is primarily office-based, with hybrid working available by agreement following an initial settling-in period.
