Technical Operations Learning and Development (L&D) plays a critical role in enabling Operations to deliver safe, reliable, and efficient performance across Johnson Matthey’s global manufacturing network. As the business continues to advance operational maturity through deployment of its Production System (JMPS) and embed consistent global standards, there is an increasing need to strengthen the capability and confidence of our people through structured, role‑based learning.
This role sits at the intersection of Operations, Learning, and Technology, supporting the implementation of competency frameworks, standardized learning pathways, and digital systems such as Workday Learning and Kahuna.
Principal accountabilities:
- Set a global strategy for technical learning and competency assurance across JM.
- Partner with Global L&D, the Businesses, sites, and technical functions ensuring strong alignment and direction, and support, coordinating resources and capabilities.
- Provide directional support on technical L&D and compliance learning, advising site leaders and business L&D teams.
- Develop the framework and high‑level global procedures for training and competency management, ensuring consistent standards (e.g., P17/G17, PRC017).
- Optimize and simplify learning delivery approaches (digital and in‑person) and identify cost savings.
- Lead performance and learning analytics, reporting insights to regions, and using data to refine strategies.
- Oversee site L&D gap analysis, supporting prioritization and action planning.
- Identify learning needs within the agreed framework, recommend improvements for digital solutions, and enhance system functionality in partnership with platform owners.
- Facilitate Communities of Practice, sharing internal and external best practices.
- Standardize curricula management in digital systems and champion global consistency.
Key requirements:
- Experience in developing and deploying L&D strategies and policies and systems.
- Experience in managing competence in high hazard and/or highly regulated manufacturing environments.
- Experience of working in a matrix organisation, leading hybrid teams and translating corporate policy into local procedures.
- Experience in stakeholder management, driving decision making and outcomes with senior teams.
- Significant experience or qualifications in on‑the‑job competence assessment.
- Strong demonstrable project management skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly with all levels within the organisation.
- Navigating change and facilitating decision making, alignment and outcomes.
