At Johnson Matthey, your work will matter. As an Operator I - Entry Level Operator, you’ll join a world leader in platinum group metals with over 200 years of history. Using advanced metals chemistry, you’ll help tackle the world’s biggest challenges - cutting emissions, powering modern life and supporting life‑saving technologies - by applying, refining and recycling metals that matter for a healthier, more sustainable, circular future.

Due to the nature of this role applicants must be non-smokers and have been free from nicotine products for at least 3 months.

The role:

  • Working safely at all times, following site procedures, PPE requirements and safe working practices
  • Supporting production operations and learning to operate complex manufacturing and chemical processing equipment through structured training
  • Following process documentation, work instructions and risk assessments to ensure safe and consistent operations
  • Completing production records, batch sheets and shift handovers accurately to support continuous manufacturing
  • Carrying out basic preventative maintenance checks and reporting equipment or reliability concerns promptly
  • Contributing to continuous improvement activities, 5S standards and team initiatives to improve plant performance

Key skills that will help you succeed in this role:

  • A strong commitment to health, safety and environmental standards
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) including English, Maths and Science
  • Good attention to detail with the ability to follow documented processes accurately
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • A willingness to learn new skills and develop within a manufacturing environment
  • A reliable, organised and flexible approach with the ability to work shift patterns

WORKING HOURS: 12-hour day and night shifts including weekends and bank holidays on a 2s and 3s shift pattern.
