Johnson Matthey is currently seeking a Process and PLC Controls Engineer who will support the PGMS sites globally with the implementation of control and automation safety management standards and policies. The main purpose of this role is to identify, develop and implement safe automation solutions and standards for the process/machinery domain within the Global EC&I Team. The role will also involve supporting the sites with gap analyses against regulatory standards for control systems and developing action plans for gap closure. Attendance at HAZOP's/ PHA's will be crucial to ensure correct risk profiling and all control and automation actions are identified and captured.
Your responsibilities:
- Evaluate risks and support with process controls related PHR/ HAZOP actions in compliance with process safety management standards.
- Guide and train area personnel on process control methodology in order to assist process control improvement efforts.
- Support process control related activities of site capital projects.
- Understand how safety devices and components are assembled, programmed and applied to reduce hazards from machinery and processes so as to reduce the operational risk.
- Support medium to large CAPEX projects with the implementation of the process control standards.
- Prepare and review engineering studies, design drawings, documents, material and equipment specifications.
- Responsible for contractors you bring onto site and their adherence to JM standards and performance requirements in your area of remit, escalating any issues necessary.
Requirements for the role:
- Demonstrable industrial work experience ideally within a chemical industry.
- Knowledge of IEC 61511, IEC 61508, IEC 60204-1, IEC 62061, ISO 13849, ISO 12100.
- Demonstrated ability to program PLC (Preferable Control Logix/ Omron and/or Siemens).
- Proven experience working in automation, control industry, and instrumentation.
- An understanding of explosive atmospheres and ATEX regulations.
- Degree certified in relevant engineering discipline or relevant industry experience.
- You will be expected to work at the Royston site and may occasionally be required to travel to other sites globally for technical support/ training.
- The work environment is mostly office based with occasional visits to the operational areas, both pyrometallurgical and Hydrometallurgical.
