Johnson & Johnson MedTech Surgery is seeking a Senior Business Unit Director for the Wound Closure business. You would be responsible for the development and implementation of Wound Closure Sales and Marketing strategies to deliver strong sustainable growth for the Surgery business. It will be critical to work with the cross functional team and all relevant stakeholders to shape and implement growth strategies including specific go-to-market models and new access initiatives. Work with industry and key stakeholders to help shape our external environment and to prepare for the launch of new technologies. The role requires strong strategic and operational skills alongside a passion for talent development and building high performing teams.

Mission: Deliver consistent profitable growth, market share gain and expansion, for the Wound closure business through:

  • The development and execution of a winning plan for the BU in alignment with Global strategy and regional direction
  • Successful P&L management including OPEX and SGP
  • Strong and effective implementation and execution of strategies and plans to achieve both long-term and short-range objectives
  • Development of the organization and its talents

Responsibilities:

  • As member of the UKI Surgery Leadership Team, lead the sales and marketing team for the Wound Closure (WC) business.
  • Develop, implement and deliver the business sales and marketing strategy in cross-functional collaboration with local leadership team, Marketing, ProfEd, HEMA, Medical and Government Affairs as well as global & regional stakeholders.
  • Represent UK and Ireland on regional and Global Platform Leadership Teams.
  • Ensuring the development and delivery of consolidated plans for short-term and long-term profitable growth.
  • Drive profitable growth by flawlessly implementing plans, while continuing to deliver product launch excellence, the right resource allocations on capabilities, skills and talent as well as deliver against BP targets to optimize growth and win in the marketplace.
  • Direct & monitor financial and budget activities to achieve financial goals.
  • This includes partnering with Finance; owning and managing the P&L; conducting financial planning, analysis and modelling and anticipating trends and making key decisions that impact short- and long-term financial performance.
  • Set strategy in alignment with regional and global direction and work to understand and consider opportunities from other markets when planning and implementing business strategies.
  • Drive national execution for these platforms and specialties.
  • Shape the external environment by developing deep customer and competitor insights & relationships with clinical and non-clinical stakeholders (government policymakers, health-care executives, purchasing groups); leverage market insights and new strategic/commercial capabilities to create new commercial models and innovative solutions that drive growth and every stakeholder value.
  • Lead a high performing sales and marketing team and create an agile and customer-focused organisation.
  • Develop a robust pipeline of diverse leaders with skills to succeed in a complex and dynamic marketplace and champion initiatives to promote an inclusive workplace environment and highly engaged workforce.
  • Install growth mindset within the team, ensuring effective communication and employee engagement, talent selection whilst minimizing organisation disruption and ensuring continuous business acceleration.
  • Create a Credo aligned culture, ensuring Health Care Compliance and integrity principles are championed and actively practiced at every level of the organisation.

Experience:

  • Experienced Sales and Marketing leader with a track record of delivering results in challenging business environments.
  • Degree in science/medicine and/or business.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience of leading a commercial organisation with P&L responsibility is essential.
  • Over 5 years of leadership experience in a BU with > 30 people / $50M.
  • An outstanding demonstrable track record of leadership and results, coupled with a performance driven approach in the medical technology industry.
  • Experience in the MedTech UK market and category knowledge in Wound Closure and Healing is a plus.

  • Strong business & financial acumen with strategic mindset.
  • Experience leading a commercial organization with P&L responsibility is essential.
  • Experience in MedTech or Pharma industries is strongly preferred.
  • Proven customer centricity and knowledge of economic environment and market dynamics.
  • Strong patient and external environment orientation.
  • Proven track record of building mutually beneficial networks and partnerships with key external leaders to develop value-generating solutions.
  • Unquestioned ethics, integrity and Credo-based leadership.
  • Track record of establishing and championing a culture of Health Care Compliance.
  • Strong organizational leadership, with ability to inspire and mobilize a large organization through periods of continuous change.
  • Talent development mindset with a track record of developing a diverse pipeline of successful leaders through coaching, mentoring, providing courageous feedback and being a strong role model.
  • Strong communication skills & influencing skills.
  • Demonstrated enterprise mindset, with ability to influence and collaborate in a global, matrixed environment to achieve business objectives.
  • Potential of 50%-75% travel.
