Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate its Orthopaedics business to establish a standalone orthopaedics company, DePuy Synthes. The separation is expected to complete within 18 to 24 months, subject to legal requirements, consultation with works councils, regulatory approvals, and other customary conditions. Purpose Of The Role

The Medical Affairs Director UK is a key member of the Country DPS Board, acting as a strategic partner to the business. This role brings deep surgical expertise, knowledge of the local healthcare ecosystem, and insights into policies, trends, and clinical guidelines to inform and shape commercial strategy, maximizing opportunities for the DPS business at the country level. The role also drives the global innovation agenda by capturing and translating customer insights into clearly defined unmet needs and supports evidence requirements to address stakeholder needs, supporting market registration, access, and adoption within the country.

Strategic Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as a trusted partner to Country Business Leaders, contributing to strategic decision‑making.
  • Understand the needs of diverse clinical and non‑clinical stakeholders across the healthcare ecosystem.
  • Build and maintain strong external relationships with key stakeholders, including strategic accounts, hospital groups, regulatory authorities, and medical societies.
  • Develop and nurture partnerships with customers, with a strong focus on identifying, engaging, and developing key opinion leaders.
  • Identify and establish strategic collaborations that drive growth across core business areas.

Evidence Strategy & Scientific Leadership

  • Ensure that evidence supporting J&J MedTech products and services is robust, relevant, and aligned with country requirements, including regulatory approval and clearance; health technology assessment; reimbursement and market access; clinical adoption and customer uptake; outcomes‑based contracts; medical safety and post‑marketing support.
  • Drive clear, credible, and impactful communication of scientific and clinical evidence.

Innovation & Evidence Generation

  • Anticipate healthcare trends, policy developments, and changes in the healthcare ecosystem to inform strategic direction.
  • Collaborate with global franchise medical affairs teams to shape the global innovation agenda through customer insights and identification of unmet needs.
  • Provide strategic input into evidence generation planning by proactively identifying and assessing data requirements to meet stakeholder expectations.
  • Support execution of evidence plans, including case support and identification of data generation opportunities such as partnerships with early adopters and data‑sharing agreements.

Evidence Dissemination & Implementation

  • Contribute to and execute the evidence dissemination strategy, ensuring translation of evidence into clinical practice.
  • Provide scientific and medical leadership within areas of surgical expertise to support business priorities.
  • Facilitate scientific exchange through medical education activities, congress participation, and expert engagement.

Who are we looking for?

  • Advanced medical degree (MD, PhD, or equivalent), with postgraduate training beyond initial licensure.
  • Strong expertise and business acumen within a surgical specialty and/or the medical device industry.
  • Proven experience in medical education, including design, oversight, and implementation of training programs.
  • Experience in clinical evidence generation, interpretation, and publication is strongly preferred.
  • Fellowship or subspecialty surgical training and/or relevant clinical practice.
  • Experience in research and/or industry roles (Medical Affairs, Clinical, or R&D) within a highly regulated pharmaceutical or medical device environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships internally and externally.
  • Strong strategic mindset combined with the ability to execute and deliver results.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive value‑based solutions.
  • Proven leadership capabilities, with strong alignment to leadership imperatives, particularly lead and deliver.
