ABOUT THE ROLE

This is an excellent opportunity for a trainee or early‑career project professional to join the Global Marine & Navy Fire Team in Manchester. The role supports the delivery of fixed fire protection system projects on naval and military vessels worldwide, providing hands‑on experience in project coordination, contract management, and defence sector supply chains. You will work alongside experienced Project Managers to support the successful delivery of projects, gaining exposure to technical, commercial, and operational aspects of military supply contracts. This role offers structured development with increasing responsibility over time.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in reviewing and understanding client technical specifications and contract documentation
  • Support the preparation and organisation of project deliverables and documentation packs
  • Coordinate with the design team to help plan and request resources based on project needs
  • Assist with sourcing supplier quotations and procurement activities
  • Help organise logistics, shipping, and associated export documentation
  • Maintain regular communication with internal project teams and stakeholders
  • Support the creation and management of project schedules (e.g. MS Project)
  • Assist with customer communication under guidance from senior team members
  • Contribute to financial tracking and reporting, including: Revenue and billing forecasts, Cost tracking and cost-to-complete monitoring
  • Attend internal project and contract review meetings
  • Support efforts to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to required standards
  • Participate in continuous improvement and learning activities

WORKING ARRANGEMENTS

Based in Manchester office 37 hours per week Monday–Thursday: 08:30–16:55 (40-minute lunch) Friday: 08:30–15:30 (30-minute lunch) Occasional UK travel, with potential for overseas travel

REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL

  • Strong communication skills and willingness to learn client-facing interactions
  • Team-oriented with a proactive attitude
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Basic understanding of technical documents or willingness to learn
  • Competent in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Ability to obtain SC-level UK MOD Security Clearance (arranged after offer)

DESIRABLE

  • Interest or early experience in project management
  • Working towards or interested in a project management qualification (e.g. APM, PRINCE2)
  • HNC/HND or degree in Engineering or related discipline
  • Interest in marine, defence, or engineering industries
  • Awareness of manufacturing or supply chain processes
  • Familiarity with MS Project or planning tools (training can be provided)
