The Opportunity

Our client, a large international banking group with a strong EMEA presence, is seeking an AVP Loan Documentation Specialist to join its Middle Office function in London. The organisation supports multinational clients across lending, capital markets, trade finance and advisory services.

This role sits within a highly regarded Execution, Distribution and Limit Control team and offers exposure to complex, structured lending transactions across syndicated loans. It is an excellent opportunity for an experienced loan documentation professional to step into an AVP-level role within a globally connected banking environment that values control, collaboration and long-term client relationships.

Role Overview

As an AVP Loan Documentation Specialist, you will act as an operational subject matter expert, supporting Front Office teams across EMEA to ensure the efficient execution, documentation and booking of lending transactions. You will be responsible for reviewing loan documentation, ensuring consistency with credit approvals, satisfying pre and post conditions, and ensuring transactions are accurately reflected in core banking systems. The role plays a key control function, supporting risk management, regulatory compliance and high-quality data reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and approve lending documentation, ensuring operational feasibility and compliance with internal procedures.
  • Perform and approve consistency checks between legal documentation and credit approvals, providing final sign-off on key terms and conditions.
  • Execute and approve credit limits within core banking systems, ensuring all regulatory and local requirements are met.
  • Review risk mitigation documentation, including credit insurance and sub-/risk participations.
  • Escalate transaction-related risks from both policy and regulatory perspectives.
  • Develop procedures and booking methodologies for non-standard or complex transactions in collaboration with Front Office and Finance.
  • Constructively challenge existing processes to enhance controls, efficiency and best practice.
  • Participate in departmental and firm-wide projects and change initiatives.

Skills, Experience & Background

  • Strong experience within a banking or financial services environment, with exposure to syndicated loan markets.
  • In-depth knowledge of loan documentation.
  • Solid understanding of the credit approval process and transaction lifecycle.
  • Working knowledge of Loan Market Association (LMA) standards and market practice.
  • Understanding of key transaction risks, control points and regulatory considerations.
