The Mental Health Technician (MHT) primarily serves as a one‑to‑one observer for assigned patients while securing and maintaining a safe environment under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). When not assigned to the observer role, Patient Care Technician duties may be delegated to the MHT. This position reports to the Workforce Management Manager.
The Acute Care Float Pool is a Unit Without Walls at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. Float Pool Techs seamlessly integrate with teams across various units, adopting the unique culture of each one to provide top‑quality patient care. Units within the Float Pool include NICU, Pediatric Medicine, Hematology‑Oncology, Surgical/Neuroscience, and many more.
Education / Experience
- A minimum of a high school diploma, GED, Certificate of Completion, or equivalent achievement.
- One year work experience with children and adolescents seeking psychiatric treatment (preferred).
Qualifications
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification.
- Medical Assistant (MA) certification.
- A nursing student or LPN who has completed fundamental nursing skills coursework.
- An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.
Other Qualifications
- Complete hospital‑provided de‑escalation training program within 6 months of hire.
Salary
Minimum $22.00/hour – Maximum $22.00/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
Employment Terms
PRN, 12‑hour shift Day or Night Shift. The Hospital reserves the right to modify employee schedules as needed.
