Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive, age-appropriate assessments of patients and their families to understand their developmental, emotional, social, and environmental contexts.
- Provide a diverse range of developmental and psychosocial interventions to help families cope with the stress of illness, hospitalization, and loss.
- Create a safe and therapeutic environment that supports positive coping and emotional well-being during medical encounters.
- Facilitate engaging group activities that promote socialization and positive interactions among patients and families.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary healthcare team, integrating goals into treatment plans and ensuring seamless communication and documentation.
- Advocate for the psychosocial needs of pediatric patients through education and in-service training for staff and community members.
- Mentor and train child life interns, students, and volunteers, ensuring high standards of care and interaction with patients and families.
- Prioritize and organize workload effectively to ensure timely interventions for patients at the highest psychosocial risk.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Child Life, Child Development, or a closely related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Certification as a Child Life Specialist required within one year of hire.
- Comprehensive knowledge of child development and the ability to tailor interventions to meet individual needs.
- Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
