Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Mechanic role based at John Will Motors in Dunfermline. The Mechanic will inspect, service, and repair used vehicles, ensuring they are safe, reliable, and ready for sale. Day-to-day tasks include performing scheduled maintenance, diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, conducting preventive checks, and completing necessary repairs on a range of vehicle makes and models. The role also involves working with heavy automotive components, documenting work performed, following safety standards, and collaborating with the sales team to prioritize vehicles for preparation. The Mechanic will interact with colleagues and occasionally customers to explain findings and recommend appropriate repair solutions.

Qualifications

  • Strong skills in general vehicle maintenance, including routine servicing and basic mechanical checks.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance practices to reduce breakdowns and extend vehicle life.
  • Proficiency in maintenance and repair of a variety of vehicle systems (e.g., brakes, suspension, engine, transmission).
  • Ability to work safely with heavy equipment and automotive components, following workshop safety procedures.
  • Effective troubleshooting skills for diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and performance issues.
  • Relevant vocational qualification or apprenticeship in automotive technology or vehicle mechanics.
  • Previous experience in a dealership, garage, or automotive repair environment is highly beneficial.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, service bulletins, and diagnostic reports.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management skills, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s licence and safe driving record.
