The role is Mon to Thur 7:30am-4pm and Fri 7:30am-3pm. It is a day shift role. There would be Overtime available.
Job Purpose: The Electrical Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all plant and facility electrical systems. This position is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving a wide range of electrical equipment and control systems that support continuous production. Working closely with production and mechanical maintenance teams, the technician ensures rapid response to breakdowns, delivers high-quality preventative maintenance, and contributes to ongoing upgrades that enhance plant performance, safety, and energy efficiency. The role is essential to minimising downtime, supporting operational excellence, and maintaining compliance with all regulatory and safety standards.
Key Accountabilities:
- Responsible for the maintenance and repair of all plant equipment, ensuring safe and reliable operation.
- Carry out diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of motor control centres, control panels, and associated interfaces.
- Maintain and repair metering and instrumentation systems used for liquid measurement and process control.
- Perform maintenance and fault resolution on electric motors, variable speed drives (VSDs), and soft-start systems.
- Interpret and apply electrical drawings, schematics, and technical specifications to identify and resolve faults efficiently.
- Utilise PLC systems for effective fault-finding and troubleshooting.
- Use the SCADA system to diagnose issues and support root-cause analysis.
- Ensure all preventative maintenance activities are completed in line with the planned maintenance (PM) schedule.
- Maintain electrical cabinets to a high standard, ensuring they remain clean, organised, and compliant with safety requirements.
- Undertake maintenance and repair of domestic electrical systems within the mill and office facilities, including lighting, heating, and power.
- Complete small projects on own initiative, including the design and installation of control panels to aid with upgrading existing plant.
- Work alongside and support contractors on larger projects when required.
- Support the continuous improvement and upgrading of mill and office infrastructure, such as LED lighting upgrades and energy-efficiency initiatives.
- Work closely with the production team to prioritise and resolve breakdowns, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- Collaborate effectively with Mechanical Maintenance Technicians to identify causes of equipment failure and determine the most efficient repair strategies.
- Complete all records, reports, and documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and environmental procedures, promoting a safe working environment at all times.
Person Specification:
- Essential Criteria
- Technical Qualifications: Recognised electrical qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent apprenticeship).
- Industrial Maintenance Experience: Proven experience in electrical maintenance within a manufacturing, processing, or industrial environment.
- Electrical Experience: Experience of installation and maintenance of safety related control systems, as well as experience of inspection and testing of single phase and three phase fixed wiring.
- Fault-Finding Skills: Strong diagnostic ability using electrical drawings, schematics, PLCs, and SCADA systems.
- Equipment Knowledge: Competence in maintaining motors, VSDs, soft-start systems, control panels, and instrumentation.
- Preventative Maintenance: Demonstrated ability to carry out planned maintenance to a high standard.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Strong understanding of electrical safety, lock-out/tag-out, and safe systems of work.
- Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with production and mechanical maintenance teams.
- Documentation Accuracy: Competent in completing maintenance records, reports, and compliance documentation.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to identify root causes and implement effective long-term solutions.
